Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Mark Anthony Sawyers

To Yvonne,
As a police officer's wife, my greatest fear has become your reality. I only wish that I could ease your pain. Your daughter may be young, but she will grow up knowing what a great man her father was. You are now a part of a bigger family and the department will hold you and Lily close. Mark was only with Sterling Heights P.D. for a short time, but from what I hear, he made a great impact. His life will not be forgotten and his brothers at the department will not rest until his killer is found. My thoughts and prayers are with you and Lily. I am so sorry for your loss.

Mark,

Your funeral burns bright in my mind. Yet the moment you died and your funeral will not be what defined your life.

You will be remembered...

-by the laughter of your friends, as they recall your spirit and share your stories.

-by your wife, parents and family - as they slowly move past their grief to remember with joy their special times with you.

-and most importantly, in the living legacy that is your daughter.

And you will be remembered by your brothers and sisters in blue, whether they worked with you or not. They will continue - in your memory - to walk the streets proudly on earth, as you walk the streets of heaven.

Rest in peace - we will meet again.

The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges
can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

Dear Officer Sawyers family and Co-Workers:

I would like to take this time to say how very sorry I am for your recent loss. Although I did not know Mark, I know how hard this is for everyone that did know him. With our current loss of Deputy Perry Fillmore, I know how much it hurts right now. I will not tell you that it gets better with time, I'm not so sure it does. I will say be there for each other, depend on each other and lean on each other, it will help. Heaven must be one special place now for it has one more great Officer. To Mark: I hope you are in Heaven enjoying your spot right next to Our Deputy Perry Fillmore. The two of you deserve only the best. Rest in Peace brother.

SOMEONE SPECIAL

Someone special died
Leaving this world
Lonely, bleak, and gray

He was a man in blue
With a badge and a gun,
Who left behind
A wife, a mother, a daughter.

His warm sad tears
Wet the earth as he died,
While hi brothers in blue
Wept and cried

His badge now restss
Upon his still breast,
A shining bright star
Among a dark blue chest.

Though the sun will warm
Another summer day,
The world is so cold
Cause someone special died.

Mark, God Bless you and your family. We will miss you

Mark, even in your death you are still touching the lives of others. As a retired officer I felt your loss from "our family". Badge 76 has been retired but the memory of the "Hero in Blue" who wore it will always be alive.
The family you left behind is now a part of ours. God Bless

I never dreamed it would be me,
My name for all enternity,
Recorded here at this hallow place,
Alas, my name, no more my face.
"In the line of Duty," I hear them say:
My family now the price to pay.
My folded flag stained with their tears;
We only had those few short years.
The badge no longer on my chest,
I sleep now in enternal rest.
My sword I pass to those behind,
And pray they keep this thought in mind.
I never dreamed it would be me,
And with heavy heart and bended knee,
I ask for all here and from the past:
Dear God let my name be the last.
-Sgt. George Hahn(LAPD-Ret)

Mark,
You only touched our lives for 7 short months, but you will stay with us forever. I am honored to say I knew you and will always remember your dedication to "catching the bad guys". You can rest easy knowing that we will take care of your family, and I will feel safer knowing that you are watching over us. Thank you
