Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Sergeant Jeffrey Todd Hewitt

As you are in a better place, your fellow officers and good friends will miss the great things you have done for each and everyone one of us and this department. We will grieve your loss, but we also know you would encourage us to get back 10-8 and do our duty. Thanks for being my friend and please watch over us. By the way I'm sure the grass is cut perfect in your new surroundings. Will miss you E2.

Today we lay to rest another brother from our Law Enforcement Family. Sergeant Hewitt, you can be wonderfully proud of your service to your country as a United States Marine, and your community as a Buncombe County Sheriff's Deputy.
To Tracie, I pray you will allow god to watch over you and comfort you in your time of deep sorrow. Always remember he is never gone, only gone from our sight. Remember as you mourn for Jeff, he is in a much better place to watch over us all as we close our ranks and carry on the job and lifestyle that Jeff loved so dearly. Rest In Peace Jeff, we know your spirit is riding in each of our cars with us.
"Edward 2, 10-42, Signal 3"
Jesus welcomes you home, Sergeant.

God ordains the Peace Officer’s profession.
The Peace Officer is sent by God.
The Peace Officer is vested with God's authority to enforce the law.
A Peace Officer's badge is to be honored by us, because it is honored by God. Romans 13:1-5

My heart goes out to the Police Community in Wester NC and Sgt. Hewitt's family. I grew up in Swannonoa and it saddens me to know that such a sensless tragedy has occured in Buncombe County.

Although I no longer live in Swannanoa my family remains there and I want to thank Sgt. Hewitt for making the sacrafice he has made to protect the citizens of Buncombe County.

To Sgt. Hewitts wife - may God Be With You. I cannot begin to fully understand the pain you must be in. I hope that knowing there are fellow officer's wives praying for you gives you some comfort.

I am a member of the Police Unity Tour I will travel, with the Tour, to Washington DC in May to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. I will say an extra prayer for the family of Sgt. Hewitt, and the police community in NC, at the Candlelight Vigil on May 13.

Condolences to the families of Sgt. Hewitt, both at home and on the job. Let us all dedicate ourselves to the task of promoting safety in our work - when a tragedy like this happens on the other side of the country, we grieve a bit and then continue on - when it happens in our own backyard, it is easier to see how potentially dangerous the job is everywhere.

Jeff,
Thank you for standing watch and protecting us, you are the true definition of a hero.

There comes a time in our lives when our eyes are opened to how cruel this world is. And though we can't alway's make sense of it, it happens for a reason. Through the past 23 years of my mother's service, I to have been touched by the caring and dedication of other officers. It is hard to understand why God would choose someone who had such a positive effect on those around him. I want to send my thoughts and prayers to Tracy and Jeff's Family. I also dont want to forget the officers who are dealing with this tragedy. Be strong and be there for each other. Also know that we will see Jeff again.

It's very difficult to express how deeply sorry I am. The english language does not give us the words to erase the pain of losing a love one. May God send His healing angels to heal your hearts in this time of sorrow.
there is a quote that says:

" Love leaves a memory that
no one can steal"

May God bless the wife and family of Sergeant Hewitt, co workers and friends.

In Memory and Honor of Jeff, Our Fallen Hero

A man of honor and bravery is no longer with us
Gone from our lives are his friendship and his smile
He was a wonderful friend and a great neighbor
Whom we had known for quite awhile.

Loving life and cherishing his family,
Was the way he celebrated his every day
He did even the most mundane of duties
In the most outstanding way.

With dedication and devotion
He carried out each task at hand
Doing with pride and honor his duty
As on the side of right, he made his stand.

Yes, he fell in the line of duty
And with his fall we suffered loss
Of a loving friend, husband, son and neighbor
Who with his life paid so great a cost.

Jeff's name is now written down as hero
But we would rather than he stood here with us now
Holding the hands of those who love him
If only we could turn back time somehow....

But we will look up to God in Heaven
And pray that He has welcomed Jeff inside
And that Jeff knows how much we love him
And God will somehow use the scores of tears we've cried.

Father, take good care of this dear friend of ours
And comfort those he so quickly had to leave
Please wrap Your arms around his dear Tracy
And hug her close, Lord, as she grieves.

And Father from this tragedy, help us to remember
The heroes that surround us every day
And to honor each with our love and devotion
And cherish them before they are called away.

Thank you God that we had Jeff with us
For we treasure each moment that we had
And although sometimes our tears may overtake us
We will celebrate the person and for his life be glad.

Lord, I don't know if Heaven has a balcony
For loved ones to look over as they wait
But if so, please tell Jeff that we miss him
And to watch for us someday at Heaven's Gate.

Jeff, the last time I worked with your squad you told me" Thanks for the help tonight G-16" and that you appreciated it. I said "anytime Edward 2" well the offer still stands and now when I am 10-8 it will be in your honor, and I hope the brief FTO you gave me when you were C-4 will make me a Great Officer just like you. Two last things Jeff, #1 the earring is gone, and #2 my Sheriff Jacket that you liked so much is a treasure to me now and will always remind me of the calls we answered together and the last call we were on together. You might be 10-42 but "anytime" you want to be 10-8 you can ride with me, I'll even go A-2. Jeff it is an honor to have worked with you, we all miss you Thank You so Much

My deepest sympathy goes out to you're entire family. I , along with many co-workers will dearly miss Jeff, his warm smile, and his great sense of humor. All the good memories of Jeff are something I will always treasure.
Tracy, just know each and every time Jeff mentioned you're name at work, he had a twinkle in his eyes that was unforgettable.
To my co-workers.. I have seen such an outpour of emotions the last few days and a bond that makes me proud to be a part of such an extensive family.

To the family, friends and members of the Buncombe Country Sheriff's Department - you all are in my thoughts and prayers during this time of grieving.
I joined BCSD as a reserve officer only 1 year before Sgt. Hewitt and served as a patrol and communications sergeant on G Squad. I was very fortunate to work with Jeff both on the road and as a communications officer. Sgt. Hewitt commanded respect and displayed thoughtfulness with everyone he came into contact with. In return, he gave the same.
Edward 2, go 10-42 in peace and rest in God from your labors. Your service and dedication to your family & friends, your country & county will not be forgotten!
