To the family, friends and colleagues of Sgt Jeffrey T. Hewitt, my deepest sympathy to you all. I received an e-mail from my brother who served with Jeff in the Marines and now is a US Marshall. I too served my country in the military and now serve my community as a Deputy Sheriff each day knowing the risk that each of us take and accept but do so with all willingness. God has chosen you for a reason and in time brother we will all see you again.

Sgt Jeff Hewitt, I did not really know you very well on a personal basis, however alot of my friends worked with you. I have noticed in my last weeks of FTO what kind of person you must have been. You are the type of person that I really look up to and I really wish I had known you better. Now it is up to us to take over from here, while you are taking over in a much better place. You have taught me a valuble lesson that alot of my training officers etc. has been trying to teach me for quite sometime and that is (Be safe to the best of your ability and always remember nothing is routine) Sgt I would like to send my prayers to your family in hope that it would ease some of their pain because I know that your wife and stepson and all your brothers at BCSD miss you dearly:)

Jeff,
Though I did not know you on a personal basis, I did have the great opportunity to work along side of you when I or you would back each other up on assistance calls in the county or in woodfin. You set the standard for all standards to be set. You are and will be missed today and everyday until we all meet again. Jeff, we are brothers in blue. We will carry on your tradition and traits. Rest in peace my brother, protect and watch us from above, we will take over from here. To the family of Sgt.Hewitt you are in our prayers each and every day. When things look down...look up. One day WE ALL will be together. GOD bless you all.

Sarge, I never dreamed I would have to say thankyou like this...but thankyou for the honor and priviledge of serving with you. I always enjoyed doing my reserve time with your squad. Although I did not know you personally, I admired your professionalism, your love for the job and the way you led by setting examples. You had a unique way of using your sense of humor to send your troops out to do a dangerous job, to be cautious and still enjoy a tour of duty. You touched so many lives and now you will continue to stay in so many hearts.
To Tracie, Taylor and Jeff's family, my heart aches for you. Your loss is so profound and yet you carry yourselves with such couarge and dignity. You are all heroes. May God keep you in his hands and carry you through. To the other officers who were present, Jeff could not have had any better brothers by his side. God is just more powerful than you. I believe he has plans for Jeff just as he plans left for you. So, carry on as you know Jeff would want you to.
Jeff I will not say goodbye. I will say, see ya one day.Rest in peace brother.

This past week has been a hard one. We lost one of our own. Jeff was a great officer and an even better friend to everyone that had the privilege to know him. His sense of humor and smile is one that will not be forgotten. Thank you, Jeff, for your service. Now you have a bigger job. Just know that you have made us proud! You are missed.

To Jeff's family, Tracie, and Taylor.....I know that you are trying to find reason in why Jeff was taken from all of us. God had a bigger plan for him and I pray that you will find comfort in knowing he is walking with God, patroling the streets of gold and now you have your own guardian angel to look over you. You will have memories. They are what will make you strong.

This November will be 2 years since I lost my Sergeant to the hands of a troubled man. Our life on this earth is but a short moment. Looking at the reflections already left for Sergeant Hewitt, I am certain that he was a great man, leader, and person. I am also certain that this is why our Father in Heaven needed him back. Yes, life on earth is short, but what a glorious thing it is to know that we have eternity to look forward to. Sarge...I look forward to shaking your hand when the day comes!! May God bless the Hewitt family and the Buncombe Sheriff's Office family.

To the family, friends, and co-workers of Sgt. Hewitt-

My family shares your grief. My cousin, OHP Trooper Nikky Green was murdered the day after Christmas. While we share the same(yet different) grief, we also can share the knowledge that our men loved the job they did. They each were respected and loved by their communities. Someone told us not to cry because his life is over, but to smile because it happened. That has been good comfort for us.

Know that you are all in our prayers...May God Bless you all.

I pray for strength for the Hewitt Family, to all of the officers on scene that night, every officer with Buncombe County, and to every officer who wears the uniform. I didn't know Sgt Hewitt, my husband speaks highly of him and his work as a Deputy. We never expect this to happen, but when it does, it shakes you to the core, even a seasoned officer. I can't begin to express my sympathy, words seem useless. Just know that you, the Hewitts and every one who puts on a uniform tonight, are in my thoughts. Be careful.

I WAS JUST IN THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE 2 WEEKS AGO AND SAW YOU THERE. A FRIEND INTRODUCED US, I SHOOK YOUR HAND, I KNEW YOU HAD SEEN ME A TIME OR TWO..... BUT I REMEMBER YOU SAID, "I KNOW WHO YOU ARE", AS IF TO SAY, WE NEED NO INTRODUCTIONS HERE. INCLUDED WAS YOUR TRADE MARK SMILE THAT I'VE HEARD SO MUCH ABOUT LATELY. I FELT UPLIFTED FOR A MOMENT, KNOWING THAT YOU DIDN'T KNOW ME, BUT IT DIDN'T MATTER TO YOU. THAT WAS MY FIRST AND ONLY IMPRESSION OF YOU. I THOUGHT, "WHAT A NICE PROFESSIONAL GUY, HE'S PRETTY COOL". I WENT TO YOUR FUNERAL... IT WAS THE MOST HONORABLE THING I HAVE EVER SEEN, AND I CRIED FOR A MAN THAT I ONLY HAD ONE MEETING WITH, ONE IMPRESSION OF, AND ONE HAND SHAKE WITH. BUT I WILL REMEMBER YOU FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE, AND IF I'M BLESSED ENOUGH TO HAVE CHILDREN...... I WILL CERTAINLY INCLUDE YOU ON MY TALK OF "FIRST IMPRESSIONS LASTING A LIFE TIME". THANK YOU FOR THAT AND FOR ALL OF YOUR COURAGEOUS YEARS OF SERVICE. I LOOK FORWARD TO MY NEXT IMPRESSION OF YOU......

Sgt Hewitt,

You were always one of the most professional officers I had the pleasure of working with. You were always the picture perfect image of how an Officer should reflect himself in both duty and appearance. I always enjoyed working with you as Charlie-4, back in my "G" Squad Days. Now you've accepted a greater duty, patrolling the streets of heaven

There are no words for what SGT. Hewitt did. He thought of others before himself. In the face of danger he stood thinking of others before himself. He is a true hero. I pray that your family and friends will be strong.

To the Hewitt family and to the family of dedicated officers in Buncombe County.....Words cannot express the sorrow I feel for you at this time. I had the priviledge of working with Sgt. Hewitt on some occasions when I worked reserves at the Sheriff's Dept. Sgt. Hewitt was a Deputy's Deputy. He was one of the finest officers I have ever known. Not only that, he was a good man too. The gold badge he wore on his chest reflected the purity of his heart.
My thoughts and prayers are with each of you. Many times we ask why bad things happen to good people. We don't always understand God's reasoning for things. His ways our higher than ours. Remember that God understands your hurt and your sorrow. He knows what it is to lose a loved one.
I understand that Sgt. Hewitt laid down his life to save two other officers. That shows me that Sgt. Hewitt was Christ like in every manner. "No greater love than this that a man lay down his life for his friends."
May God bless you and keep you safe.

SGT. JEFF HEWITT WILL ALWAYS BE IN MY MIND. HE WAS A TOP OF THE LINE OFFICER AND WILL BE MISSED BY ALL IN THE DEPT. IT WAS A GREAT HONOR TO SERVE WITH HIM AS A BROTHER OFFICER. MAY THE LORD TAKE HIM INTO HIS FOLD AS HE HAS DONE WITH OTHER FALLEN BRETHREN OF THE LEO WHO LOST THEIR LIVES PROTECTING OTHERS.

I'll never forget what a truely great man Jeff was. He touched my life in so many ways. I can remember a few years back, while working at Boone's, he used to come in late at night and sit with me until closing so I wouldn't be alone. I remember thinking how kind that was and how much it made me respect him. Tracie, I have never met you, but I know Jeff loved you. When I found out he got remarried, I asked him about you and he immediately started glowing and smiling! He told me he knew you were the one he was meant to spend forever with. I can not begin to understand your pain or why he was taken from us, but I do know he is in a greater place. This community loved Jeff dearly and we will all miss him. If there is anything I can do for you, please get a hold of me and let me know. My thoughts and prayers are with you through this difficult time. Jeff- Thank you for making the ultimate sacrifice to protect us. God speed and rest in piece.

I never knew you,
But we are brothers,
I never met you,
But we are brothers,
Our paths never crossed,
But we are brothers,
I have never patrolled in your town,
But I know we have been on duty together,
I just in another NC town.
And we are brothers.
And as a brother,
I feel the pain,
I feel the hurt,
And I feel the sadness that only a brother can undergo.
The sacrifices that each of us make everyday in nothing compared to the one you and your fellow officer have accepted.
One that everyone one of us is aware could happen
Any day, any moment, any second.
You have made me proud,
You have made my job easier because
I am more aware.
I am more cautious
And I will never forget you.
May God hold you in his hand and have you rest in peace.
