Today is another sad day in the law enforcement community across this nation, but especially in Western North Carolina.

We all grieve over the lives lost in the line of duty. I hope you can find some comfort knowing that there are countless prayers that go out for your family.

These are senseless tragedies that never seem to stop. God Bless the men and women who continue to serve their communities in our great Nation.

May God bless Officer Hewitt's family, friends and co-workers in this horrible time. I only found this site three weeks ago after my nephew, Officer John Logan was shot and killed after a traffic stop and it breaks my heart everytime I see another HERO lost. Thank you Mr. Hewitt for your service to this country!! I know you will watch out for us all, along with all of our HEROS! God bless your wife and family, Sir.

God bless you, Sergeant Hewitt. I don't know you or your family, yet I feel a certain grief because of your passing. I want your family to know that there are those of us who are not in law enforcement who have a heartfelt thanks for those of you who give everything of yourselves to make this world a better place for us all. It takes a very special person to dedicate his or her life to make our community a safer place, and I am forever in your debt. I also want to say to Sergeant Hewitts family: I understand the horror of a death of someone that means so much. But I hope that in the future you may recieve some comfort in knowing that there are those who are touched, if indirectly, by his very actions. All of us here in Buncombe County are affected by his death. God bless you all. You are in my thoughts.

It is a sad day when an officer is killed in the line of duty. It makes it even sadder when that officer has served his community and his nation, and then is lost to everyone because another lost person didnot get help when needed. My sincerest prayers go out to Deputy Sergeant Jeffrey Hewitt's family and his co-workers at the Buncombe Sheriff's Department. May their hearts be aided by the thoughts and prayers given from the law enforcement community and the citizens in his community. May he/we never walk alone.

Jeff,
I really didn't know you all that well, even though we worked for the same department for almost the same length of time. I remember that when I started, on "G" Squad, you were on Charlie squad, along with our brother Cogdill who went on to be with the Lord last year. I remember going on a few calls with you guys, assisting and learning since I was only a rookie then. When I went to work in the jail, I remember you bringing a few into intake and booking every now and then. We always laughed when there was a "crazy", or anything else funny going on. I remember just a few weeks ago when we worked the protest downtown togeether, you with SRT and me with ISU. We are all laughing and cutting up before "showtime". I still have the TV clips of tape of that day. Jeff, my brother, it will not be "showtime" for you on this earth anymore. You paid the ultimate sacrifice last night out there in Arden. The news of your death came awful hard this morning since today is the 1st anniversery of my little boy, Jonathan, going to be with Jesus. No time is a good time to receive the news of the death of a fellow officer, especially in your own department, but it was really rough today. Jeff, you and your family will be in my prayers and my family's prayers. We are still grieving the loss of one family member, and now we must grieve for another in your passing last night. Say hello to my little boy, and to Cogdill and all the others that have passed on. May God comfort those that you left behind here.
