Reflections for Officer Scott Allen Hylton

I originally came here because there was a letter in my email that included this site. Seems Scott's in laws live in Polk County and they were wanting to find out who the deputy was that left the note here. Well, I couldn't leave here without saying that I'm always sad to learn that another officer has died protecting us all. We are all really one big family and when one is hurt or dies, it affects all of us. Please extend my sympathy to family and friends and let them know that Scott, and countless others, won't be forgotten. Bless you, Scott. Rest in peace now.

I just read the newspaper and saw that you were named Officer of the Year for 2003. Congratulations brother, you deserved it. You will not be forgotten.

I did not know Officer Hylton personally, however his death brings great loss, not only to his family, but to his community, and his fellow officers. I can remember it like it was yesterday, I was at home with my wife and daughter when the local news broadcasted the death of Officer Hylton, it made me angry and sad. To your family Officer Hylton, I can only offer my deepest sympathy, I know that you are in a better place waiting on fellow officers to stand by your side. You don't need to worry about your family my brother, your fellow brothers and sisters will see that they are taken care of. Officer Hylton, you have made the ultimate sacrifice and have earned your place in heaven, I hope to see you on the other side.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say.

But first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.

I'm writing this from Heaven. Here I dwell with God above.

Here, there's no more tears of sadness; Here is just enternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.

Remember that I am with you every morning, noon and night.

That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through

God picked me up and hugged me and he said,'I welcome you.

It's good to have you back again, you were missed while you were gone.

As for your dearest family, They'll be here later on.

I need you here badly, you're part of my plan.

There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.'

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.

And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.

And when you lie in bed at night the days chores put to flight.

God and I are closest to you....In the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years.

Because you are only human they are bound to bring tears.

But do not be afraid to cry: it does relieve the pain.

Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.

If I were to tell you, you would not understand.

But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is over.

I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you, and many hills to climb;

But together we can do it by taking one step at a time.

It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you to;

That as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain;

Then you can say to God at night...."My day was not in vain."

And now I am contented...that my life was worthwhile.

Knowing as I passed along the way I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low:

Just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.

When you're walking down the street and you've got me on your mind;

I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go...from that body to be free.

Remember you're not going...you're coming here to me.

I will always be with you!

Scott,
I was thinking about you and I lying in a field at Ft. A.P. Hil during sniper school just the other day. We were talking about having to make the ultimate sacrifice.... You bravely said " if the man up-stairs, says it's my time, then it's my time.." I have lived by those words for the past 14 years. Brother you will be missed!

“My Badge at Heart”

We band of Brothers and Sisters have fought so very hard
Protected our streets, our people, their homes
Protected the children, the aged and the tired
Protected each other, our brothers and our sisters
We prayed every night and every day since we swore to protect and uphold
God, let us return to those who too are so brave
Our mothers and fathers our brothers and sisters
God let me once again hold my wife, my sons and my daughters
Allow me to picnic with my family, celebrate a wedding, and sing happy birthday
God, please let me live to teach my sons to play catch and to watch my daughters dance
Please let me grow old with love, compassion, and strength
But most of all God, if you need me to lay down my life for another
Please, please tell my family, my loved ones, and my friends
I died not in vain, I sought no heroics
I died doing what I was proud to do
I died being who I was proud to be
I died, my badge at heart

Dedicated to all Blue Angels and their families

BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS FOR THEY SHALL BE CALLED THE CHILDREN OF GOD.

I still can not believe that Scott is gone. Every time I saw him he was smiling, you knew that he loved what he was doing. I never thought that I would ever see one of our Police Officers killed in the line of duty and now I have seen two. We have two special angels looking over us.

God Bless Scott's family.

God Bless all the Police Officers who dedicate their lives to keeping us safe, no matter the cost to them.

A HERO:

A hero was here but now he is gone,
his brave warm spirit carries on.
We felt so sad to hear he fell,
his badge he wore so proud and well.
His works reached out to so many lives,
we struggled hard to understand why.
With a folded flag and taps final call,
a mournful salute snapped from us all.
Yet now he stands a higher post,
he is Heaven's guard, we proudly boast.
With St. Michael, he patrol's Heaven's street,
God's brave soldier still walks his beat.

Scott was a kind, gentle, generous man. He loved God, loved his job, loved his community. He would do anything to help someone in need. I know he loved his family a great deal because I heard him speak of them every time I saw him. It is a tragedy that his little girl must grow up without him and that his wife must go on without him by her side.

He always had a smile. He was a true Southern gentleman. He was the kind of man who could talk even the most contentious person out of a fight. He was the kind of man that people went to when they needed something sorted out. He was a good friend to my husband and a great example to our children. Our family is worse off without him. He is greatly missed.

I was born and raised in Christiansburg. My father and mother still live there. I did not know officer Hylton personally.
How ever I do know many of the fine officers at christiansburg police department. My heart gose out to all of you. To the family I am so sorry for your loss. I was able to attend the funeral and could feel the pain and loss from every family member, police officer and soldier there. Scott Hylton was truely a great man serving God, Country, and his family.
your death was truley uncalled for and horrific. But I know there is a special place in heaven for men of this calibre. Please lead us, guides us, and direct us through our tours of duty with your loving hand on our shoulders. Maybe some day I can return to the new river valley to serve and protect with some of the finest law enforcent officers I have had the opportunity to work with. You are gone but NEVER EVER forgotten. You will ride every shift and every tour in our hearts and souls. GOD BLESS OFFICER SCOTT ALLEN HYLTON AND HIS FAMILY

Ours is often a thankless unforgiving job, but we each accept our sworn duty and faithfully serve everyday. Each of us stood proudly as we raised our right hand and said yes this community I will serve, its people I will defend, so help me God........All to often a brother or sister gives all that they have to stay true to that promise. Officer Scott Hylton gave all.....Now it falls to us to carry ourselfs in a manner that brings honor to his memory and his profession..... I pray that God brings commfort to his family and friends. You will not be forgotten.....

I only just met Scott the week he died, but I will forever be grateful to have done that. I have gotten very close to the Christiansburg Police Department over the years and I am glad Scott was a part of them. My father is Officer Terry Griffith, the other officer lost at this agency. I know how hard it is on the officers and family and the other people that knew Scott and offer my sympathy. I Scott knew how loved he was. I just want to say that I love each one of the guys at the Christiansburg Police Department and the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department and I always will. Thanks for everything guys, and thank you Scott.
Love Always

To the family, friends and co-workers of Officer Hylton... I'm so sorry for your loss. May God bless and comfort you through this terrible time.

Jamie Johnson, surviving sister of
Officer Jon Cook
San Francisco Police Dept.

I don't ever remember seeing Scott without a smile and everytime I was around him, he was bragging about his wife and kids. He was one of the most honorable men you could ever hope to meet and a true role model.

Even though I saw his body, I cannot believe he is gone. He was a fixture in the community- you just expect to run into him eventually. I still look for him.

Scott,
Thanks for all of the good times I had with you and all the times you were there watching my back. You have left a great hole in the hearts of everyone here that worked with you.
you will always be missed.
Rest Well Brother

Sgt. A.D. Janney

My thoughts and prayers go out to Scott's family, friends and co-workers. I miss seeing his smile in the mornings when I come in to work. Even though he had just worked all night he was always smiling when I saw him. He was such a laid back and easy going officer. It gives me peace knowing that Scott is looking down on us from above and helping to protect our officers as they continue to patrol our streets.
God bless Scott's family and you are in my thoughts and prayers. One day we will be with Scott again and I'll get to see the smile he always had on his face.
Rest in peace!

It is with great regret that I learn of this tragic loss. My thoughts and prayers go out to Officer Hylton's family and friends.
