Reflections for Officer Scott Allen Hylton

Rest in peace my brother. You are in a better place now. Keep watch over us and keep us safe. You will not be forgotten.

Trooper
New York State Police

I'm so sorry for your loss. My father was killed in the line of duty 12 yrs ago. I no it is such a shock to the family and the police dept. Keep your faith in the lord and you will see him again. May God watch over you all in your time of sorrow.
God Bless.

God Bless Scott and his family. I grew up next to Scott and rode the bus with his kids. His mother was my real estate agent and helped me and my wife when we were looking for our first house. I never worked with him, but I knew him on a personal level, and he was always so nice and friendly. He is gone, but will never be forgotten.

Prayer is powerful; I put a prayer request in my church today to remember you, Scott, and your family. More than 500 people prayed for your wife and children today, as well as the many people around the nation traveling to the National Police Week Memorial Services in Washington, DC. God is watching over you. While I never knew you, I am touched by your sacrifice. Your situation has made me think about my actions and it will make me and many other officers become safer. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of god. Matt 5:9.

GOD BLESS YOU.

P.O.

On behalf of my department, I'd like to send condolances to Ofc. Hylton's family, friends, and fellow workers. I know Christiansburg well, having graduated from Radford University in 1994. Southwest Virginia has some great communities, and I hope they know what a great sacrifice Ofc. Hylton made in keeping them safe. I will remember his life this week in DC during Police Memorial Week. As ODMP says, it's not only a department that loses when an officer is slain, but a NATION as well. Ofc. Hylton is now among the legions of Guardian Angels that we have looking over us every day, while doing our work. God bless!

PO3 Kristen McKenna
Montgomery County (MD) Police

You will be missed. Sleep well Bro.

Brother, May God bless you and your family. You have made the ultimate sacrifice. Rest in Peace.

Special Agent
FBI New York

Rest in peace, Officer Hylton. Having attended Radford University and grown up in Blacksburg, I can understand how a small community feels about losing not only a police officer, but a neighbor and friend. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

Officer M.T. Tuttle
Virginia Beach Police Dept.

In preparation for Police Week, it saddens the Law Enforcement Community to suffer the loss of another Brother in Blue.

My heart-felt prayers are with the Hylton Family, may God Bless you all and give you the strength to make it through this senseless time in your life. My prayers are also with Officer Hylton's co-workers and many other survivors.

To Officer Hylton: May you rest in peace Brother, continue protecting and serving from above! God Bless!

Officer Jennifer Barba
Metropolitan Police Department, Washington DC

THE POLICEMAN'S LAST ROLL CALL ...

THE POLICEMAN STOOD AND FACED HIS GOD, WHICH MUST ALWAYS COME TO PASS. HE
HOPED HIS SHOES WERE SHINING, JUST AS BRIGHTLY AS HIS BRASS. "STEP FORWARD
NOW, POLICEMAN. HOW SHALL I DEAL WITH YOU? HAVE YOU ALWAYS TURNED THE OTHER
CHEEK? TO MY CHURCH HAVE YOU BEEN TRUE?"

THE POLICEMAN SQUARED his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a Saint. I've had to
work most Sundays, and at times my talk was rough, and sometimes I've been
violent because the streets are awfully tough. But I never took a penny that
wasn't mine to keep, though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills just
got to steep. And I never passed a cry for help, though times I shook with
fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept many unmanly tears. I know I
don't deserve a place among the people here, they never wanted me around
except to calm their fear. If you've a place for me Lord, it needn't be so
grand. I never expected or had too much, but if you don't, I'll understand."

There was silence all around the throne where the Saints had often trod. As
the policeman waited quietly, for the judgement of his God. "Step forward
now, policeman, you've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on Heaven's
streets, you've done your time in hell."

I watch this site everyday, and when we lose someone and I read their story, I fight back tears....I guess that means that I "get it"...I understand the sacrifice and the devotion to duty that police officers, sheriffs, troopers, agents and all other law enforcement officer have....

May the Lord bless and keep Scott Allen Hylton, May He cause is face to shine upon him, forever and ever.

May the Lord bless and keep the Family of Scott Allen Hylton, may they find comfort.

Someday, Scott's family, kids, and colleagues will read these posts....I would like you to know that I care, and I will never forget Scott's name or sacrifice.

former member
Richmond VA Police Dept.

My fiance, Dennis McElderry, was the first law enforcement casualty of 2003. It saddens me to know that Dennis was not the first to die in the line of duty, nor will he and Scott be the be the last to die this way.

Having gone through the pain of losing Dennis I can truly understand and feel the pain that Officer Hylton's family, friends, and co-workers must be feeling. I wish I could give you a few words of wisdom to help you through this tough time, but there isn't anything I can really say or do to make the situation better. Please know that my thoughts are with you.

Please accept my condolences on behalf of the McElderry family and remember that Scott is part of huge law enforcement family. If you ever need anything any number of them will be there for you (as I've quickly found out!) From reading the many reflections posted here, I am certain Scott was well respected and well loved. Thank you for a job well done and for helping to make this world a safer place for us all. Please take care of my fiance Dennis.

Peace, Love, Luck, and Happiness!

To the Family and Friends of Officer Hylton:

Every time I come to this site I pray that there are no new names added to it, but usually that prayer isn't answered the way that I would like it to be. I know that he is watching over you all from heaven, but it still hurts to not have him there with you at work, at home.. in life. I am so sorry for your loss, and I hope that you can come together during this painful time to help console each other and keep his memory alive. God bless you!
