As I log on to the ODMP, I am saddened to see that we have lost three more officers in the last few days since I have logged on. They are not just statistics, but each one of them is a hero who gave his all doing what he loved, only to have that taken by a thankless human being that I hope never leaves a prison cell. Rest in peace Deputy Shannon, we will take it from here. God bless the friends and family of Deputy Shannon.

On behalf of my family and department, I would like to extend our most profound condolences to the family, friends, and co-workers of Officer Shannon. Both Mike and everyone who cared for him will be in our prayers during the weeks and months to come.
It's never easy to lose someone for whom you care. Remember, however, that Shakespeare wrote:

Cowards die many times before
their deaths:
The valiant never taste of death but
once.
Of all the wonders that I yet have
heard,
It seems to me most strange that
men should fear;
Seeing that death, a necessary end,
will come when it will come.

Mike will always be remembered as one of the Valiant;
a Hero.

God Bless.

Thank you for your service to a tough job. It is always hard to hear about another brother that has fallen. It brings back thoughts of one's own mortality. May you rest in peace.

My fiance, Dennis McElderry, was the first law enforcement casualty of 2003. It saddens me to know that Dennis was not the first to die in the line of duty, nor will he and Michael be the be the last to die this way.

Having gone through the pain of losing Dennis I can truly understand and feel the pain that Deputy Shannon's family, friends, and co-workers must be feeling. My heart goes out especially to his family. I wish I could give you a few words of wisdom to help you through this tough time, but there isn't anything I can really say or do to make the situation better. Please know that my thoughts are with you.

Please accept my condolences on behalf of the McElderry family and remember that Michael is part of huge law enforcement family. If you ever need anything any number of them will be there for you (as I've quickly found out!) From reading the many reflections posted here, I am certain Michael was well respected and well loved. Thank you for a job well done and for helping to make this world a safer place for us all. Please take care of my fiance Dennis.

Peace, Love, Luck, and Happiness!
