Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Michael Eron Shannon

My prayers and deepest condolences to the family, friends, and fellow officers of Michael Shannon. Just know there are MANY people out there praying for you, who are sickened by the tragic loss of your fine, brave, young man.

For some unknown reason I happened to be in Adams County and as I walked into the meeting scheduled & heard on a police scanner what was in progress my heart sank and tears immediately filled my eyes...another courageous police officer and another senseless death. Only our God above knows the reason WHY and we have to accept and try our best to deal with the loss of our loved ones. My niece was also killed by gunfire while on duty with the Minneapolis Police Dept. August 1, 2003. We all miss her so much as I know you will Michael. Take comfort in knowing he will be with you every day, in every way and some day you will again be together.

God Bless you Michael, your family, friends & fellow officers.

Blessed are the Peace Keepers for they shall be called the sons of God. Matthew 5:9

Let God comfort you Michael Shannon, your job here is done......for you brother lived and walked where most men fear and in service to your fellow man paid the ultimate sacrifice.
I sensed your presence as you guided our actions on that day and as God cast his veil of protection over your brother officers during the apprehension of your assailant.
Thanks for the Assist!

You are now safely home.

Mike - How do I begin?!!! It has only been a week since you left us and my heart is still broken. I miss you so much. How such a great person can be taken away at a moments notice... I will remember you and all you have done every day of my life. Thank you for being such an inspiration.

Stay strong Tim and keep in touch. Mike will be watching over us all. God Bless.

If tears could build a highway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

To Deputy Sheriff Shannon's Family, Friends and Fellow Officers,

I'd like to share with you one of DS Shannon's gifts on behalf of the family of Ken and Connie Bending.

This February 3rd, during a bad snowstorm, my grandparents car ran off the road on the way back home to Friendship from a shopping trip in Mauston.

DS Shannon was on the scene, assisted my grandfolks into the squad and brought their groceries too. Once safetly home again he helped put the groceries away.

Most importantly he was greatly concerned for their health and asked them repeatedly to take them back to the hospital such was his caring nature.

They're still recovering from their physical injuries sustained in the accident when they heard of Mikee's untimely death. And now their hearts hurt as well. As do ours as grateful family members who live far away.

You see, grandpa's brother was a police officer murdered by a bank robber in the late '40s outside Chicago. And my own father retired from the force after a 28 year career.

Praise God for the men and women in blue who keep His command, 'Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.' John 15:13

Mrs. Jennifer Ashmore

I have called you roommate, co-worker and most of all FRIEND.

We had been to the funeral of another fallen officer, but I never thought I would be carrying you to your final resting place. It was my honor for all the times you had been there for the challenges in my life and being a friend in truest sense.

I will always remember the good times because that was what we mostly had. I will miss seeing you become a husband and father. My unborn child will know you but it saddens me that you won’t know her. Our children will never grow old together as we plan to do so ourselves.

You may have left the physical world but you'll always be remembered by those of us still here. You have forever changed me in life and in your death. There will be a void left in me which I will carry until I leave this world. That void shall be my reminder. It shall remind me to be the best husband, father, officer, and friend.

Watch over us until one day when we will meet again. I will forever miss you.

My heart goes out to the family, friends, and fellow officers of Deputy Michael Shannon. While I feel the pain whenever a fellow officer makes the supreme sacrifice, I feel this one even more for several reasons. Not only are we both Sheriff's Deputies in our respective areas, but Michaels last call coincided with my date of birth. Michael will always have a special place in my heart and prayers. Though it has been over 21 years since I started in Law Enforcement, I remember like it was yesterday, being where Michael was, finally achieving a goal that was fought for very hard, being a Law Enforcement Officer. It is a tragic loss, that Michael was not able to see his career blossom with time. Rest in Peace, Deputy Shannon.

We'll will never forget! Just remember Mike, it's now all "cope a setic!!!!"

Mikee,
Our humble beginnings started in Rome, with the few of us. Now we have all answered the law enforcement calling. Even though we all know the dangers, I never saw this day coming. I never thought that someone with so much would be taken away.

Your laughing and constant humor always brought smiles to our faces. I was always glad to talk to you whenever I called your department. I thank you for the countless times you would check on something in your area for me. You were always glad to help.

Watch over Timmy, your family and the rest of us. We will continue to serve and protect.

Mikee, your death brought our group back together to honor you. It also brought the brothers and sisters of our profession together to show you and your family that when one of us is taken, we will be there.

I am honored to have worked with you and to have been your friend. I will miss you.

Michael E..........

I cannot begin to express the sorrow and sadness that I am feeling right now. I miss you so much. You were tragically taken from all of us, at such a young age. You were robbed of your chance to be an uncle, father, and husband.

You were one of the most kind hearted, caring, and giving individuals that I have ever met. You made the ultimate sacrifice. I would not have expected anything less from you.

I am truly privileged to have had the opportunity to work with you, side by side, not only as partners in dispatch, but partners on the road. It was my privilege to be your partner throughout our law enforcement careers. I don't honestly know how I am going to come to work every day and carry on, but I am hoping that you can guide me and protect me.

I am also going to miss the close friendship that you and I shared. Alan and MacKenzie thought of you as their uncle, and they miss you very much.

I hope we all did you proud Tuesday. You deserve the best, and then some. May you rest in peace and know that you will never be forgotten.......

I have known Mikee for what seems only a short time. I have worked with many fine Officers in my 26 plus years with Adams County, but I noticed immediately that Mikee was very special. Mikee made a difference, he never had a harsh word about anyone. A hard working, dedicated Officer doing the job that he said was his calling, helping to make Adams County and this world a better place to live. He volunteered on that faithful morning, like always only thinking about protecting the citizens of Adams County. Mikee had dubbed me his "Uncle Bob", this always cheerful greeting of his brightened any day, for now I will look to the clouds knowing some day I will hear this again. Rest with the angels Mikee I know you will be keeping watch on Timmy and the rest of us filling in for you.

Uncle Bob.
