Michael Murtaugh

Patrolman Michael Murtaugh was shot and killed during a robbery investigation.

Officer Murtaugh observed a disturbance in the street. Upon further investigation, he discovered the three offenders had just robbed a dry goods store. While Officer Murtaugh confronted the men, they attempted to escape in an automobile. As the gunmen fled, they began to fire their weapons at Officer Murtaugh, fatally wounding him.

On January 17, 1925, Patrolman Murtaugh's killer was convicted of his murder and sentenced to life.
