Patrolman Murray was struck and killed by car while directing traffic at Dutton and Main Streets following a circus. The 24-year-old suspect fled the scene after striking Patrolman Murray but was later apprehended and charged with hit-and-run and manslaughter. He was convicted of manslaughter, fined $1,498.00, and received a suspended sentence at the request Patrolman Murray's wife.

Patrolman Murray had been with the agency for eight years and was survived by his wife and two sons.
