Robert John King

Corporal Robert King was killed in a motorcycle crash while assisting other officers who were pursuing another motorcycle at 12:35 a.m.

The driver of the motorcycle they were pursuing lost control on Queens Chapel Road at Madison Street in Hyattsville and crashed. Immediately afterward, Corporal King crashed as well. Corporal King was transported to Prince George's Hospital where he succumbed to head injuries.

The juvenile was not injured. He was charged with five traffic violations.

Corporal King had served with the Hyattsville Police Department for five years. He was survived by his wife and daughter.

On June 18, 2009, Private King was posthumously promoted to the rank of Corporal.
