Paul Michael Kennefick

Patrolman Paul Kennefick was killed in an automobile accident on Route 3 South, near Route 53, in Hanover.

An oncoming vehicle entered his travel lane, causing him to swerve and slam on his breaks. A vehicle traveling behind him then rear-ended his vehicle as it attempted to avoid the oncoming vehicle too.

Four occupants of the wrong-way vehicle exited their car, then re-entered and fled the scene.

Patrolman Kennefick was a Vietnam War veteran and had served with the Metropolitan Police Department four eight years and was assigned to the Mounted Unit. He was survived by his wife, three children, parents, and six siblings.

Patrolman Kennefick, it is now 37 years since your tragic and horrific death at the hands of a band of animals who apparently held no regard for human life. Their fate is not posted here and may not be known, but we can only hope that they have/will face true justice, if not in this life, then in the next.

Rest in Peace, Brother and God Bless. I honor you and the Metropolitan Police here and mourn you both as well.
