Patrolman Paul Kennefick was killed in an automobile accident on Route 3 South, near Route 53, in Hanover.

An oncoming vehicle entered his travel lane, causing him to swerve and slam on his breaks. A vehicle traveling behind him then rear-ended his vehicle as it attempted to avoid the oncoming vehicle too.

Four occupants of the wrong-way vehicle exited their car, then re-entered and fled the scene.

Patrolman Kennefick was a Vietnam War veteran and had served with the Metropolitan Police Department four eight years and was assigned to the Mounted Unit. He was survived by his wife, three children, parents, and six siblings.

Today, July 14, 2018 the Massachusetts State Police and members of the former Metropolitan Police take a moment to honor and remember Patrolman Paul M. Kennefick on this his 36th anniversary. May he continue to rest in peace knowing that his memory, sacrifice and family have not been forgotten.
