Patrolman Olivas was struck and killed by a drunk driver while investigating an earlier accident on I-25 near Las Vegas, New Mexico. He was struck while taking measurements at the accident scene. The suspect continued driving but was later arrested during a police search of the area. The suspect was charged with vehicular homicide.
Patrolman Olivas had been in law enforcement for seven years and was survived by his expectant wife and daughter. His wife gave birth to his son only three months after his death.

Well Manuel another couple of years have passed since my last posting and, I would like your family and friends to know that I think of you often and. that I will always have fond memories of you. I'm an old man now and wish with all my might that you would have lived to see your children grow up.
