Patrolman Manuel Olivas was struck and killed by a drunk driver while investigating an earlier accident on I-25 near the Pecos River Bridge Las Vegas, New Mexico.

He was struck while taking measurements at the accident scene. The suspect continued driving but was later arrested during a police search of the area. The man was charged with vehicular homicide.

Patrolman Olivas had been in law enforcement for seven years and was survived by his expectant wife and daughter. His wife gave birth to his son only three months after his death.

Dear Grandpa and Grandma. I hope one day I get to meet you in heaven. I never got to meet you but I know one day I will get to meet you and grandma. I know both of you would be the best grandparents. Hopefully one day we could see each other. I have a little brother. His name Aden. Also I have a big sister and a big brother. Aden is 7 years old and I am 8. Next year I will be in 3 grade.
