K9 Kuno died after suffering heatstroke while searching a school building for a burglary suspect at about 3:00 pm with temperatures in the mid-90s.

K9 Kuno had been requested to assist the Prince George's County Police Department as they searched for the suspect in Morningside. Approximately 15 minutes into the search he began showing signs of heatstroke. His handler immediately returned him to their vehicle and gave him water, but he collapsed several minutes later. He was rushed to a local emergency veterinary hospital where he passed away.

K9 Kuno had served with the Forest Heights Police Department for four years.
