Reflections for Police Officer Guy P. Gaddis

I came to now this sad story through the news of the incoming execution of the convicted killer of officer Guy Giddins.the circumstances in wich officer Guy lost his life makes him a hero to me.even though I live in California I throughly appreciate the sacrifices made by individuals that make their living taking care of you,Me and our Families. My heart goes with His relatives for their tremendous loss.

Guy was easily the funniest, most caring person I have ever met. I have so many stories about him that tell just how caring he was and I often share them with friends. Guy and I were in the Boy Scouts of America and he always knew just what to do or say to cheer you up or make you laugh. I don't think he realized just how much I appreciated him making me laugh.

The year before we lost him, I ran into Guy with my mom and and new wife and after talking a few minutes, he pulled me aside and "did that thing" he always did that was sure to get a laugh. I treasure that the last interaction I had with him resulted in me walking away wiping the tears from my eyes from laughing so hard.

Thank you Guy for making such a huge impact on my life.

I love and miss you, brother.

I sit here today and read these reflections and smile. Since I last posted in 2007 so much has changed in our state and our nation, the world really. I wonder how different it would be with you in it. You are missed, Guy. To Rose, I don't know how often you view this page but please know that your husband was loved and respected by all those who knew him. For Stephanie, your dad was one of the finest individuals I have met. He was selfless and giving. He always had a spark to him and was a natural born leader. For Mr. and Mrs. Gaddis...thank you for sharing your boy with us, however briefly. My father, James Thomas, passed away a few years back. In the final year of his life we spent quite a bit of time reflecting on his past. Whenever we got to talking about our time with Troop 404 he inevitably started telling "Guy stories" and it always made him smile. Your son was a beacon. He is still a strong light in my life and the lives of all these others he touched along the way. May God bless you all and bring you the peace you deserve.

Dear Guy,

I remember you being at our house almost every day, making all of us laugh and helping us see the humor in life and whatever problems we may have had. I remember when you dressed up like Santa Claus for the school. I remember when you went to the Houston Safety Council to take your safety classes to be a policeman. You wanted that so was the only career you ever wanted and I always knew you would be a good one.
I found this site about ten minutes ago. I was thinking of you and searched your name on a whim. I'm so glad I did. I never got to tell you how very special you were to me. I love you and miss you.

Your dad was so excited and happy when he found out you were on the way. I know he's watching over you and is so proud of you.
I'm the step sister of his best friend Matt. I loved your dad like a brother.

Hi Guy, I remember when you were just a little tyke and how Uncle Russell tortured you and your brothers by making you give him back rubs all the time, I remember being at the shore house and having so much fun at the beach and I remember when we took you deep sea were you (green around the gills) not sure how many time you threw up but I wasn't far behind you lol...Your family loves you, misses you and your gigantic smile and funny humor! We ran in Washington a couple years ago for you and all the fallen heroes and God willing we will be there again this year. Love you Guy and miss you always! You are a true HERO!

Hi Dad,
I never really knew about this website until I found it, all these people have such beautiful things to say about you. I wish I got the chance to meet you. I might not be able to say I miss you, but I can say I love you with everything that I am. Even without you being here, you have made sure me and my mom are taken care of. You have also provided me with a wonderful opportunity to make something of myself. I graduated from high school about a year ago, and now I'm going to college to become a nurse. I love hearing stories about you. Everyone says I remind them of you, I have your eyes. I have dreams about you all the time, those are my favorite dreams. I met this guy dad, I'm so in love with him, he treats me really good, Mom really likes him. I hope you're looking down on me, and proud of the daughter you created. Houston made this beautiful memorial for you it was on the news a few months back. You were a very honorable man, and I can tell that you were such a beautiful person. I look at pictures of you all the time, you always had a smile on your face. Whenever I'm having a bad day I like to talk to you, because I know you're always listening to me. I know I can overcome anything, because you're are always by my side protecting me. I love you so much daddy, and thank you for everything.

Love your daughter,
Stephanie Gaddis

I had the honor of serving with Guy while we were both assigned to FT Bliss, TX. When we at the unit heard the news of his death, several members of the 978th MP Co and myself loaded in my van and drove non-stop to Houston to pay our respects to his family, and to honor his service in the Army and to his community.
Another bright light in this world taken to soon. His humor is sorely missed. RIP my brother.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 18th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer

Time never diminishes respect and your memory will always be honored and revered. I pray for the solace of all those who love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Your family in in my heart's embrace today.

Rose, thank you for sharing your devotion to your beloved Guy. My son also left an expectant wife and my daughter-in-law is like yourself in that she is an amazing mom who from day one has taught my grandson to love and respect his daddy.

Rest In Peace, Guy.
