Reflections for Detective Corporal Charles Eugene Smith, II

Another brave officer has been taken away from us to early in his life and his career. A hero to all and in such a way by a cowardly act of someone that apparently has no value of life of another person.
We here at the Canon City Internet Radio send our deepest condolences and prayers to the family, loved ones, friends, and his sisters and brothers who wear the badge of law enforcement. This is a hard time for all of you but you know he is in a better place and now walking the beat in Heaven.
A Part Of America Died,

Somebody killed a policeman today,
And part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect,
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect that shot him will stand up in court,
With counsel demanding his rights.
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids,
And spend many long lonely nights.
The beat he walked was a battle field too
just as if he had gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
In your town or mine,
While we slept in comfort behind locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And stands at each new rookies' side.
He answered the call,of himself and gave his all,
And a part of America died.
God Bless You All

This is the ultimate cost in this war between good and evil. Our towns and communities are infested with drugs and most turn their heads and ignore the problem. I know how it feels to take on this responsibility because I policed the very area that Cpl. Smith was killed. Charles was a warrior to take this responsibility on every day. It is not easy, it is hard, and it seems that no matter how hard you try, you are losing. My heart goes out to the family, his baby girl, and Beckley PD. Mourn this great young man's death and let the pain and loss turn into energy and strength and unity. Show Beckley that this brother's death will not be in vain. Say to the Lord, you are our refuge and our fortress our God in you will we trust.

Former Beckley Police Officer

My deepest thoughts and prayers are with Detective Cpl. Smith's wife, child, family, friends and co-workers. I was married to Alabama State Trooper Brian Nichols EOW 2/17/2002 and I am now married to Washington County Sheriff Deputy A.V. Carpenter. All of your COPS family is here for you and hurting for you. We all became a family when our loved ones became police officers and now we have even a stronger bond when one of our family members go down. We are here for you to help you along this journey you now have joined with us. God bless you all.

Vice President of Alabama COPS

Chucky, your service to the City of Beckley, the State of West Virginia, and this great nation will not be forgotten. Your heroism was a true testiment to all those in uniform and to your personal character. Having served as a police officer myself, I came to understand the under-appreciated nature of your chosen profession. You always appeared to conduct yourself in an upstanding and professional manner. You will forver be remembered and sorely missed.
To the family, friends, and fellow officers of Chucky Smith, my sincere condolences go out to you during this dark time. You will continually be in my thoughts and prayers.
Chucky, your watch has ended. Rest in peace in the assurance that other heroes will continue your brave work of protecting and serving the citizens of this great nation.
We are all in your debt.....

Though I have never met you face to face I feel a brotherly connection. A fellow Mountaineer and graduate of the West Virginia Police Academy we experienced many of the same things in our lives.Though two seperate people, we are one in our desire to protect those we love. May GOD share his grace with you and your family. May his comforting touch reach your fellow officers in Beckley and may you all know that you will be lifted up to GOD in our prayers.

To the family, friends, and officers that knew Det. Smith, my thoughts and prayers are with you as you face the trying times ahead of you. Please know your not alone.

Here I am, lost in the light of the moon that comes through my window
Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses
It's you and the roses

Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way when I see your eyes
Now I'm living in your afterglow

Here I am, lost in the ashes of time, but who wants tomorrow?
In between the longing to hold you again
I'm caught in your shadow, I'm losing control
My mind drifts away, we only have today

Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way
I will sacrifice 'til the blinding day when I see your eyes
Now I'm living in your afterglow

When the veils are gone as I let you go, as I let you go

Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way, I will sacrifice
Now I'm living in your afterglow

Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses
It's you who is closest

I'm so saddened to hear of your loss. Your wife is numb and in shock, your daughter too young to understand what happened to her daddy. Be sure, your brothers and sisters in blue will look after them and your daughter will learn from them what a hero her daddy was. Thank you for your service, dedication and sacrifice. God bless you and those you love. Rest in peace, Dear Officer, as you bask in the glory of Heaven. You are in good company there...my own Daddy is there...say hello to him for me!
