Reflections for Police Officer Emilio Fidel Miyares

Terry congradulations on your recent election to the COPS National Board of Trustees. Your organization sent a letter to the Chief anouncing your recent election, this was posted to be read at all roll calls. It has been along time, since Emilio was taken and yet it seems just like yesterday. I can still hear his laugh and see his smile & revel in his optimsim for life! I hope you and the kids are doing well, sorry I did not get a chance to talk to you more at Willie Oteros retirement.Good luck in your new position, they are very fortunate to have you. There are very few left from Emilios time but he and your family will always live in our hearts! JRG

Dear Mrs. Miyares,

I was conducting a random search on my professional name. I'm a school teacher with your same last name. As I was searching I came across your husband's memorial. I found myself engulfed in tears and extremely moved. I suppose since we both share the same last name it hit home. The work that you are doing is truly a work of heart and it shows the commitment and love that you still hold for your husband. I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely,

Gloria Miyares

Terry,
Sorry but i didnt make it to Police week this year, I felt awful because I was really hoping to track you down to take you to lunch. I got out of the academy 6 days before police week. It went well, but i felt so horrid about not making it to Police Week. I am for sure going next year. Not a chance I will miss it. I hope it went well for you. I said the rosary the night they had the memorial service at the same time it was going on. I said it once for your husband and I said it once for a detroit officer and another for my friends husbands partner, jessica nagel wilson who was killed in the line of duty. I keep them in my prayers as well as you and your family. Hows the grand baby doing? I will have to find your e mail to e mail you. I should be going..God Bless...

I stop by this website often after the death of two dear friends with the NCSHP (Troopers Calvin Taylor E.O.W. October 3, 2001 and Anthony Cogdill E.O.W. May 30, 2003).

We all grieve over the lives lost in the line of duty. I hope you can find some comfort knowing that there are countless prayers that go out for your family.

These are senseless tragedies that never seem to stop. God Bless the men and women who continue to serve their communities in our great Nation.

...Gone, but never Forgotten....

To Office Emilio Miyares. I never met you. I read your reflections from time to time. You are so fortunate to have such a wonder wife and family. They obviously love you still. You wife writes so many wonderful things about you. I know that you watch from above. One day we will all work side by side in God's Kingdom. What's nice is that there will be no violence, just peace. I truly admire what your family does for you. 18 years and they still keep you in there hearts. God bless all of you wonderful people.

Terry, although I know your reflections are left for your husband, are such an inspiration. Seeing and meeting all the families in DC, it is hard not to wonder how each are doing. Reading the chronicle of your life, gives hope to those wondering if they are going to make it through the day. The messages you leave would make a wonderful book. Thank-you for sharing your life and hope with us.

Emilio, I can only imagine how proud you are of Terry as you read each message she leaves you. She has inspired me to begin leaving messages on my husband's page...as a way of chronically our life. I can only hope to be able to inspire someone else, as she has me.

I have walked into the Hialeah Police Dept. many times, and seen the plaques of the fallen officers on the wall. I never met any of these officers, and distanced myself from them.

Until today.

I stumbled upon this web site and read the legacy left behind by the man on the plaque. How his family although continued with their lifes do not forget the mark he left on their lifes. How they proudly tell him of all family additions. How his wife wishes him Merry Christmas year after year. How she has helped other families with words of understanding.

I see Hialeah Police Officers every day. Some are young, old, some bring smiles, and some are grumpy. They are the ones whom keep us safe every day. They are the ones that by giving us speeding tickets may have saved our lifes.

I hope never to happen, but if any should fall, that they have a family as yours to keep his or her memory going.

Carlos
