Reflections for Police Officer Emilio Fidel Miyares

Dear friend

Thank you for those beautiful words, I know what you mean about everything happening for a reason.

Again, thank you and take care, you also do a wonderful job helping others, my husband Emilio started his LE career as a complaint/dispatch officer..

God Bless you

I found this page by accident several months ago and am very grateful for that. Every day I visit it to make sure no one has been added. When I have the time, I visit other memorials and always see an uplifting comment left by you Terry. I am a firm believer in "Everything happens for a reason, and God has a plan for all of us". Terry, there is no doubt that your kind words have helped people thru such a horrible thing. Anytime that anyone dies, it is tragic. But for an officer to die, in the line of duty, protecting people that don't always want to be protected, there is something that is just so much more hurtful. Your husband died so that others may be saved thru your work. By others I mean, survivors, their families, friends, co-workers and that person who didn't want to be protected. Long story short, I really just wanted to tell you that you and your husband are an insperation to a dispatcher that is always worried that the call she is sending an officer to may be his last. May God bless your family and I'm sure your husband is patrolling the heavenly streets above.

To my new friends:

Thank you for all the kind words you write to me, but as you can notice if it was not because of what happend to Emilio I would not be doing what I do now, I know that he was taken from this world for a reason and I continue to do what he could not finish and I pray each day that I can do a good job.

Today I am the Gulf Region Trustee for COPS(CONCERN OF POLICE SURVIVORS)and beside my blood family this group is what I live for, everytime I can help one of my police family survivors is as if I won the lotto.

I thank God everyday for what he has given me (good or bad) as from good or bad we can make a wonderful life and a beautiful memory....

God Bless you all......

Terry-You are such a special woman to continue to update your husband's reflections with the milestones he has missed here on earth. I am a patrol Sergeant with a large police department. I encourage my officers everyday to remember the sacrifices of those before them and "to be careful out there." I always read the names and stories of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice so they will realize and understand the dangers they face with each call. You are to be commended for your faithfulness. I am so sorry you had to lose your husband. God Bless you.

Terry,
I read Officer Conrad Gernale's page about 3 times a week. This morning, I noticed your note to his sister. I read your husbands page today. Please know that I am deeply touched. The tears rolled down my face. Your love and devotion to your husband are obvious. Conrad was my friend. He was a man of great character. I still have a massive hole in my heart from his death. I pray daily for his wife, children, and family. Please know that I will keep you, your family, and your precious grandson in my prayers. I know that your husband would be proud of what you have done. Hold on to the memories and keep them alive for your children and grandchildren. Thank you for your sacrifice. May the Lord bless and keep you. Heaven is a better place with Conrad and Emilio there.

Officer Miyares is a true hero. Although time has passed since his death, we can all feel the pain his family went through and the honor and respect everyone still feels for him, even now. I would also like to thank his family for the condolences that they left on my brother's memorial page - your courage is an inspiration to survivors such as me and my family. Please know that I will also keep Officer Miyares, his family, and the Hialeah Police Department in my thoughts and prayers now and forever.

Well, Emilio I've got great news to tell you, you have a GRANDSON, as if you did not know, right, His name is JAVIER II, he was born on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002, weighed in
8 lbs 14 ozs, and 20 1/4" long, he is blond and blue eyes. He is beautiful. Jessica and Javier are very happy with their new baby and so is the rest of the family.

It was kind of weird as he was born at the same hospital were you died, and on a Thursday same day of the week as the day that you died, but there is a difference as you know he is our reason to go on and to keep your memory alive as I will make sure that he knows everything about his grandaddy. Jessi, I know have already talked to him about you, she told me that she was going to get all the balloons that they have given her and let them go after she writes you a message. So you see you are always in our minds and our hearts even after almost 16 years.

We love you and miss you forever...

I find your dedication to your husband, A wonderful reflection of a beautiful person. Your loss will always be a heavy one. I'm sorry for that.

My husband is a 14 yr. vet with Danville PD. He has been shot and has had to use his weapon to protect and serve. As a cop's wife, I have several good friends on the force also. I worry for them and those that serve across the country.

I just wanted to let you know that I admire your dedication. I Will return to this site often.

Emilio,
Congratulations on your 1st grandchild. I don't know who's more excited, Jessica or Terri. I know they're missing you terribly at this special time.

Thanks to you, Pete, & my dad for watching over us through our travels in D.C... and I think you guys had something to do with getting Terri to convince Emilio Jr and I to get involved with the So Florida Chapter. It's great to be working with your family again. We will never let them forget.

Keep protecting us from above.
God Bless You!

I was trying to find something to say to my good friend who I miss very much Pete Cainas. I could not write anything because his picture is not yet posted. But then I saw the picture of this very brave officer E. Miyares. I remember the day the shooting occurred because I would ride bike in the back parking lot of the shopping center and being a Hialeah boy we knew all the cops and especially the motorman. Growing up I would dream of being a cop and especially a motorman. Well, my dream came true and today I am Detective with the City of Miami Homicide Unit. What I write here today is to the widow and family of Officer Miyares, I am glad he is going to be a grandfather and husbands like yours are the ones that we looked up to in my younger years.

About two weeks ago I traveled to Washington DC for the police memorial and their I found myself marking the names of friends that I have lost onto a sheet of paper, I did not know Officer Miyares but his name along with several others sit on my desk area in my office. God Bless you Officer Miyares and your family.

Dear Lucy

Thank you for those beautiful words, people like you make me feel that my husband and all the other brothers and sisters in blue who have lost their life, was not in vain. I know your cousins and I know that Evelyn is very proud of them. To Sgt, Bonnie, she is a very kind and wonderful person. Dear Mrs. Miyares:

I have been a police cadet for Hialeah for 3 yrs. I have heard a lot of your husband and the other officers we have lost in our dept. My cousin-in-law, Evelyn Gort was also killed in the line of duty. I was too young to know her but I will always love her, as I will always love the rest of our fallen heroes. I have gone to the Dade County Police Memorial in Tropical Park 3 yrs in a row and every year I cry and every year makes me more determined to become a police officer. The Honor and Integrity, the Fight for Good agaisnt Evil. It is what I most want to do, and your husband and many of his brothers and sisters in law enforcement encourage me to do it. Sgt. Bonnie Andres, our advisor has also been a great suppport in my life. I hope to someday make her and the rest of my advisors and the officers that I so much admire, proud of me. I thank you and your husband for contributing to my determination. I will try to be the best, so I will make him and the others proud. May God Bless You Always, and may Officer Miyares Rest in Peace.

Love,
Lucia S. Gort, LT. Hialeah Police Cadets
