Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Steven Edward Belanger

On behalf of Point 27, I would like to offer condolences for Deputy Sheriff Steven Belanger. Please know we are eternally grateful for Steven’s service and his ultimate sacrifice.

To honor Officer Belanger, Point 27 sent 27 Thin Blue Line Dog Tag Necklaces, engraved with “Blessed are the Peacemakers for they will be called children of God” Matthew 5:9, to the Los Angeles County Sheriff, for Steven’s partner and fellow officers. Point 27 sent Folded Flag Necklaces engraved with “Greater Love has no one than this; than to lay down one’s life for one’s friend” John 15:13 for Officer Belanger’s family members.

Point 27 is a Non-Profit Organization with a mission to strengthen and encourage members of the Armed Forces, First Responders, and their families, by sharing scripture on Dog Tags and Jewelry called Shields of Strength.

To the family of Steven Belanger, I am so sorry for your loss of your son, husband, father and brother. I didn't know Steven until I was contacted by the organization called "A Quilt for Mother's Tears". I can't imagine the pain and sorrow you as Steven's family are going through right now. But I hope when you receive this special quilt later this year it will give you comfort. It was my honor to piece this quilt top this weekend for the mother of Deputy Sheriff Steven Belanger. Yours in sympathy Shirley Schleret

Having read the life, and legacy of you, Deputy Belanger, I find myself filled with many emotions: sad, angry, frustrated, and encouraged. A man who knew the danger that could come, yet continuing on in service. Your life was a testimony of what a Deputy ought to be. Your life has lit a fire deep inside me to work hard and not to give up in my very early career. I will continue on in humility and honor, just as you did.

The legacy of Deputy Belanger will always be honored, and remembered.
Your life, and service were not in vain.

Deputy Belanger,

I haven't been on this website since I was in the academy. For some reason, this morning I logged on and saw your name. Back in 1994, I was a young Explorer and always thought the world of you. You were such an awesome Deputy, super aggressive, always finding bad guys. You were also such a decent human being. I always enjoyed hearing your stories of your wife, new born daughter and your two pugs. It was clear how much you loved them. To this day, I think of you often. I look for dope in places I've seen you look. I've used some of your funny one liners, on bad guys I FI. I try to be a decent and honorable man like you were. Blue skies Deputy Belanger. You will always be remembered fondly and never forgotten.

Every morning I go to my knees.  During that time I pray Psalm 91 over all LEO’s and this prayer also:

“Lord, Be with all law enforcement officers. Keep them safe and free from harm.  They are Your soldiers on the front line of the battle against evil.  If one should fall this day - wrap their family in your loving arms. Surround them with Your angels, loving family, friends, neighbors and caring people to comfort them. Ease their pain.  Help them to mourn well. In Jesus' name and for Your Glory, Amen.”

I know that God sends those angels to watch over our officers, sometimes to protect them and sometimes to whisk our officers into His presence.

Feel His presence as God answers the prayers of many who have fallen to their knees on your behalf.   Since the day of my son's death, I have carried every law enforcement officer and their family in my heart.

I have lifted your family to God every morning for over six years.  I pray that Steven's life and death will bring glory to His name.

Trust those prayers.  God is with you; He knows and will ease your pain.

Our faith helps us to see beyond the grave.
