Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Sergeant Steven C. Owen

Sarge,

We've never met, at least I don't ever recall doing so. I'm sure at some point we've crossed paths. Your loss has hit us all hard. Please know that your memory will always be carried in the hearts of all LASD deputies forever. You represent all that is good in our profession and are a true hero. I will always keep you and your family in my prayers. God bless....

Sarge, when I heard what happened to you I was heartbroken. Another good cop, family man, and brother lost. Be at peace and godspeed brother. To your family: God bless and keep you all.

On the day that this occurred, it got me thinking that a service call so routine to many officers can turn the lives of so many, especially those of the fallen officers. Being a recruit and starting a career during these difficult times has made me reflect that I must never get complacent regardless of the experience I may have. Sgt Owens incident had an impact on me. It made me realize that I really need to enjoy my family because once you are on the field you don't know if you will be coming home.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Owen family. God Bless You.

Hey sarge. My old partner knew you and told me of your greatness. You were a supercop and many learned so much from all you could teach them. May you rest in peace, Sir.

I never had the honor of meeting you SGT. Owens, however from what I have been hearing from classmates, reading the reflections and reading the little background on you, I know you were a great man, a great Peace Officer, and a great family man. I hope to strive to be as good as you with the standards you have left us. May you Rest In Peace and watch over us with Saint Michael the Archangel.

I never had the privilege of being in your presence sergeant but i already know what huge of an impact you had on this department and the lives of many people who did. Thank you for your service and may you rest in peace.

Sgt. Owen, unfortunately we will not have the opportunity to meet, although I have heard and read of people speaking highly of you sir. It would have been a great honor to have met you, but as a recruit currently in class 417 for LASD, it is going to be an honor to pick up where you left off, along with other brothers and sisters in the department. My heartaches for you and family and my prayers are going out to you both. RIP Sgt. Owen Thank you for your services.

I wonder if his tragic dead could have been prevented. I would like to know if this was Governer Brown's great releases form the California Correctional system. Can is also be coupled with the lose of two of the Palm Springs Officers.

A day of Academy training was brought to a halt when the radio traffic of Sergeant Owen's incident was heard. LASD class 417 grieves the loss of such a great man and Sergeant. Sergeant Owen was an exemplary person both on and off duty, and he inspires all of the recruits just starting off careers in law enforcement to show the same dedication and commitment he did. The thin blue line just became thinner. We shall carry your memory for the rest of our careers and lives. Rest in peace Sergeant Owen.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Sgt. Owen. I never had a chance to meet him yet he's impacted my life in so many ways. Hearing how great a deputy he was makes me work harder everyday so that I can one day be as great of a man as he was. His impact on the community he served and those he served with is apparent by the amount of love and respect that has be shown. I can only hope that one day I can be as great of an inspiration as he was and still continues to be. Rest in peace Sgt. Owen.

Dear Sgt. Owen,

I never got the privilege of meeting you, but I have heard nothing but amazing things about how wonderful, courageous, inspiring, and helpful you were. I was watching the press conference after your passing, and Sheriff McDonnell said something about how all future recruits should aim to model themselves after you, because you encompassed everything that the LA County Sheriff’s Department stands for. I plan on doing just that. Hearing your story has awakened a fire inside me and a greater desire to make the world a better, safer place. You were extraordinarily brave and helpful, and I can only wish to be like you someday. I hope you know how big of a positive impact you’ve had on the world, not only in life, but also in your passing. Thank you for giving hope to those who never thought they’d feel hope again. You were a light in the dark for so many people and you will be missed and remembered every day. My thoughts and prayers are with your family and friends. Rest in Peace.

Dear Lord, I pray for healing and comfort for the Owens family. I pray that you protect and watch over his wife, as she continues to serve for this great department and continue to do your will.
