John 15:13 states; " Greater love has no one than this: to lay his life down for his friends." Although I did not personally know Sgt. Owen or his family, his sacrifice has struck a nerve at the core of me. I cannot imagine the pain his family or that of his LASD family must be feeling. I hurt for all of them deeply and pray that they find a small measure of comfort in the knowledge that he was a wonderful man, who had a heart that over flowed with love for everyone he encountered. Every single word I have heard spoken about him has been so positive and wonderful. I pray for each and every one of you and offer my deepest condolences for the loss of Sgt. Owen.

Gone, but never forgotten.

My heart is ripped out. I am sorry you made this ultimate sacrifice. I've been around LEOs since birth and have been to many LEO funerals, all murdered but two. For me to say "Thank you for your service and sacrifice" is not enough. If I could trade my life for yours, I would. I will not allow you to be forgotten, my hero. "Until Valhalla." God has a special place for His heroes.

Everything was going like a normal day at the academy, some recruits learning about CPR, others learning about officer safety when out of a sudden class comes to a holt and we start to hear radio traffic of a "routine" call. As recruits we were a little confuse trying to understand what was going on but once we heard known codes our hearts dropped. Not long after we found out what was going on and the situation SGT. Owen was in.

LASD Class 417 grieves the loss of such a GREAT man. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. Even though I didn't have the pleasure to know him personally, I feel he has left a big impact in me. I will strive to be at least as half as good as he was because with all the support that he has received it has let us know how GREAT of a man he was, not just as a Deputy but as a person. Its sad to see someone as GREAT as he was leave us but his ultimate sacrifice will not be in vain. We will continue to carry his name and the name of all the wonderful people that have lost their lives in the line of duty. Forever we will remember the ones that have done the ultimate sacrifice.

Sgt. Owens I never got to know you personally but I felt as if I knew who you were by all the great things I heard about you. I want to be a role model to the people in need of a push just how you were. When I heard about the high school kid you helped and how you offered to take him to school everyday and buying lunch for him because he didn't have someone to support him made me tear up I want to be like you. I want to be the peace officer that people want to be and you were such a good example of that.

-May you rest in peace

Sgt. Owens,

A deep sense of anguish has covered the hearts of myself and classmates. We send our deepest condolences to your friends and family. Notwithstanding the risk presented, it was the zeal of courage which you displayed that has captured the pursuit of justice. As an aspiring law enforcement officer, I know that you did not pass as a victim, but as a martyr for the true values of exceptionalism and heroism. I am humbled to know that not only do we live in a world where God loves limitlessly, but in a world where God deems justice superior. You will never be forgotten; Rest in Peace.

Sgt. Owen,

I just want to say thank you for your 29 years of service that abruptly ended a few days ago. Your dedication to serving the community will never be forgotten. And although I never had the chance to know you personally, I am saddened to see that a man of your experience and stature was taken from us so suddenly. As a current recruit at the LA County Sheriff's Academy, we have learned so much about your life and how you brought so much joy to those who needed it and kept everyone else safe from those who threatened a peaceful way of life. I, as well as my classmates, have been inspired by you and have vowed to keep your memory alive by working hard every single day to make ourselves the best we can possibly be. You sir are and always have been an inspiration and we thank you for that. I pray for your family that they will be moved by the countless number of lives that you touched.
