Reflections for Sergeant Steven C. Owen

Thank you for your service Sgt. Owens and to your family. I’m currently a Recruit with LASD. We will never forget your hard work and commitment. I’m proud to have chosen this department and hope that one day I can wear tan and greens and give back to the community ..

Thank you for your service Sergeant Steve C. Owens and to your family for being understanding and compassionate of the career we chose. I myself lived in Lancaster for a couple years and quickly realized that it was not a nice area, the courage and heart you showed in serving the community will always be remembered. Your story has made me realize even more that when you say bye to your family, it may be the last time you say bye to them. I'm choosing the path to be a guardian, to be a warrior, to risk my life for the protection and safety of others. I will wear the Tan & Green with Pride and Honor.

First and foremost I would like to send my condolences to the Owens family, I am truly sorry for your loss. Working as a Police Cadet at East Los Angeles College Sheriff Station, we participated in Memorial Runs honoring the great peace officers who served for the department. It was an honor participating and completing this run with my fellow peers. You were such an inspiration to the department for the hard work and dedication you had every time you put your uniform on. Being a recruit in the academy and realizing that the impact law enforcement officers have on society carries on forever, is truly amazing and I too hope to set a positive example for everyone to follow. You will never be forgotten Sir.

First and foremost I would like to offer my condolences to the family of Sergeant Steve Owen. We have lost one highly repspected individual. As a resident of the Antelope Valley I am reminded of his dedication to the public on a daily basis, passing by the park that was named in memory of him, and even my dry cleaners has a memorial wall dedicated to him. He was truely an individual that people trusted as he served his community. The love and support that poured out onto the streets and even at his funeral was astounding. It was beautiful to watch as they paid their respects. As I am preparing for a career in law enforcement I reflect on his commitment to the public and I will always remember the sacrifices he made to serve in the capacity that he did. Thank you for your service, individuals like you will never be forgotten.

I want to start off by telling the family of Sergeant Steven C. Owen i am sorry for your loss. I didn't know you personally, but i respect all the work & time you put into the department. That will never be forgotten. Keeping crime off the streets day in day out lives forever. Differences you have made will last forever. It is sad to see such a great Sergeant pass away. Criminals don't have any sympathy for peace officers & it's just sad. Your 29 years of commitment will always be remembered for as long as peace officers live. Thank you for your service & RIP Sergeant Steve C. Owen.

I never had the privilege of meeting Sgt Owen but I wanted to share how he inspires me. I was working for AMR Ambulance in Santa Clarita the day of the shooting. I remember watching and listening to everything on the radio. After seeing the massive response and outpouring of support I decided to learn about Sgt Owen. Everything I found showed he was a mountain of a man who lead by example in all areas of life. He is the kind of deputy I want to be on and off duty. I am now lucky enough to be in LASD academy class 429. At the end of every day when we march down to the grinder to be dismissed, we turn to face the Memorial Wall and my position lines me up right in front of his plaque. No matter how tired or sore I am I look at it and remember my goal to earn my badge and to be that kind of deputy and leader.

My condolences go out to the family of Sergeant Owen, I was lucky enough to get coached by one of your sons and go to high school with your daughter. I was able to see the impact you and your wife had on your children. I was getting ready to go into the weight room when I heard about the tragic news and I was in shock. The way the community supported your family was amazing and I want to be half the Deputy you were. Your a role model to the community, recruits, and other officers. Thank you for your service Sergeant Owen.

Steve, I cannot believe you're gone now, too. The adventures you, my Steve (Blair) and all of us shared while working in the streets of Lynwood will never be forgotten. Every time a friend/family member is killed in the line of duty it takes another piece of my heart and soul. It seems like just yesterday that we were all working and growing up in the streets together. My heart breaks for your family because I know how they feel..I wish somehow I could ease the pain I know they feel...Your family is in my prayers always...Any support I can offer them is always there...
Please give my Steve a hug for me and tell him I cannot wait to see him again someday as I know you both will be watching over all of us from heaven. If heaven has radio car partners, I am sure you two are riding together once again.
