A police officer should be remembered not by how he died, but how he lived! A great man has gone to secure a safe path for the rest of us to follow. Thank you to you, your family and the Baton Rouge Police Department. Our country is much less safe without you. Rest in Peace Brother!

"My Brother"

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was idealistic and believed he could make a difference.
He was immensely proud of the uniform and the badge and what they represent.
He felt privileged to be of service to his department, his community and to his country.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was friendly, courteous, and polite, yet firm.
He laughed and joked, but was serious when necessary.
He was competent, trained, and professional.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He had a strong sense of right and wrong and became
frustrated when true justice became sidetracked.
He felt the sharp criticism that goes with the job, but he
never wavered.
He stood by and for his fellow officers.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He longed for his family during the long hours.
He worried about them during his shifts and the lonely
weekends, holidays and midnights when they were apart.
He felt guilty about the lost time, but knew his calling
and prayed they would understand.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was a good son, a loving husband, and a devoted father.
He was dedicated to the profession and cared about the
people he served.
He wanted to do the best job that he could and strived to
be the best he could be.
He was a good citizen and a good neighbor.

He was a cop.

Yes, I did know him.
He was a cop, he was my Brother.

Rest easy Brother Gerald, we have the watch...

”I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.”
---Isaiah 6:8

You answered the call and made the ultimate sacrifice. Rest easy in God's kingdom and watch over us as we continue the battle here on earth!!!

To the Family of Police Officer Matthew Gerald

Times like this can be very difficult so pray constantly. Philippians 4:6-7 admonishes us to throw our anxiety on our Heavenly Father, he in turn will strengthen you and place peace upon your mind and heart.

Also keep in mind what we are told at Revelation 21:3-4. God promises us that he will do away with everything that causes tears of sorrow. Imagine death, pain and suffering being done away with. Only tears of joy when we welcome our loved ones back to a paradise earth. What a joy it will be to experience this promise soon.

Once again, my condolences to the family.

There aren't words to express how we feel to see our HERO"S killed, harmed, and so heartbroken much less any words for the families. You are God's gift to us you served in our military then onto our police department I am not sure one could have more humanity, dignity, compassion, patience, and love, than that. I refuse to say we will miss you because what you have done for this country and our people will live on in everyone you touched with your kindness and I want your family to remember that on the hardest days facing them. I never met you but I am married to a soldier and I want your kids and wife to know that even strangers realize what a HERO you are. Please if I can ask one more favor of you, look over us and help us remember our way to be better and do good. May God place his hand on your family's hearts and help them.
