My deepest, heart wrenching condolences to the family of this brave young officer, Matthew Gerald. He, along with Corporal Montrell Jackson and Deputy Brad Garafola were doing their job to protect us and were senselessly murdered. I cannot imagine the pain you and the rest of the families are going through. My heart hurts so much for all of you. May God hold all of you close and help you through this very painful time. These brave men will never be forgotten.

Didn't have the pleasure of knowing you personally, but my husband and Matthew served together in the Stetson Air Assault Cav over in Iraq. He speaks so highly of you and was absolutely taken aback by the news of your passing. Prayers for the families of Matthew Gerald, Montrell Jackson, and Brad Garafola.

On behalf of the Westerville, Ohio Division of Police, our thoughts and prayers are with the immediate family of Police Officer Matthew Gerald and the extended law enforcement family of the Baton Rouge, Louisiana Police Department,

End of Watch: Wednesday, July 17th, 2016.

Rest in Peace brother and watch over us.

I fight not for glory or fame, for they are momentary. I fight for those who can't. I fight for Justice. I fight for the oppressed and the down trodden. And if I should lose my life for these just causes, then I have no regrets, For I serve to protect the innocent. It matters not where or when, for evil knows no boundaries. Be it fire, flood, or the threat of tyranny, I will not flee. Justice is my weapon. Faith is my shield. Hope is my armor. Cry not at my passing, for it was my Honor to fight for you. Shed not tears of sorrow, But tears of joy, for now, I stand with God.

By Jon F. Hooper

A portion of a letter written by President Abraham Lincoln, printed in the Boston Evening Transcript on November 25, 1864.

“I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic (he) died to save.
I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.
Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,
A. Lincoln”

Father God, PLEASE protect all police officers and their family! In Jesus' name, Amen...

THANK YOU SO MUCH for your service and willingness to put your lives on the line .. even for folks that hate you. Don't take that personally, Haters Hate EVERYBODY! EVIL! But the rest of us, know that you want to keep us safe and we appreciate it!

I live in Georgia now but lived in BR 32 years ago for several years. But, it is still home (family still there).

GOD BLESS EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU! I am so sorry for your loss.
