Jeff was a great man, a great cop and a great father. I still can't believe this happened to you Jeff. In a world of men, you were a giant. Shaking your hand was like being gripped by a grizzly bear. I will always remember your infectious laugh and smile, and more importantly all of the great advice you gave me as a rookie cop. I am honored and proud to have served with you on Gary PD. Your absence is a great loss to the department, the City of Gary and the world as a whole. If there are men who come better than you, then I have yet to meet one of them. RIP Brother. Thank you for your commitment, service and sacrifice. I promise I will honor your memory every time I get behind the wheel of my squad car.

With great sorrow, I made a second Indiana reflection entry in the same day. Years ago a personal friend I met at the S&W armorer school was slain weeks later in Hammond. When will the insane lawlessness end? Please accept our deepest expression of sadness from your brothers and sisters in the deep south . . .

Avenue of the Fallen

Standing at attention in their class “A“uniforms, badges gleaming and shoes like glass, are your brothers and sisters of Law Enforcement. All of whom have previously paid the ultimate price.
Today, like many others, they welcome you to this wonderful place.
As you march down the Avenue of the Fallen, all eyes focus on you as if to say “it’s OK, you’re with your eternal partners.”
A salute is followed and a tear can be seen on so many faces.
Welcome, you served well.
Now come join us in the ranks, another is coming home.

A police officer should be remembered not by how he died, but how he lived! A great man has gone to secure a safe path for the rest of us to follow. Thank you to you, your family and the Gary Police Department. Our country is a little less safe without you. Rest in Peace Brother!

Thoughts and prayers for the entire State of Indiana.
