Mike, I was devestated to hear what happened that sad, senseless day. You were a good friend and will be sadly missed, my heart aches thinking about your wife and dear son. I never met them but know you would have been a great husband and father. I think back to our friendship through junior high and high school and cry when I sneek back to pictures of our frindship, you are....were amazing. I love love you like a brother. My condolenses go to your dear wife and sweet boy, I only wish that I had a chance to see you one last time, to hear your laugh as it was contagious and your hugs, as they were like a teddy bear. I have told my husband Dave about you, and even thou you haven't met he feels he knows you.
Watch over your wife and son, you are missed my friend.

As a citizen of Tampa, FL and former Intern student of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, FL. I am saddened to hear of the loss of one of our Bay Area's everyday heroes. Although I never knew Cpl. Roberts, my past interactions with Law Enforcement Officer's in Hillsborough County tell me that Cpl. Roberts was an extraordinary individual. I realize that Law Enforcement is a profession where your sacrifices and hardships go relatively unnoticed, often without praise or thanks. I wish to let Cpl. Roberts, his family and fellow L.E.O.'s of his squad, the Tampa Police Department and those throughout the Bay Area know that your service and sacrifices are deeply appreciated. Thank you and God Speed.

To Mrs. Roberts, I am on my knees praying for comfort and strength during this time of loss. I am without words that can bring closure. I thank you for you husband's sacrifice and commitment. He is a brother that will be missed and remembered. To the brother's and sisters at Tampa PD, our hearts go out to you. We have lost an awesome brother. I leave this with you. Its a poem written by a fellow bother in blue.

Our Greatest Fear

Yet once again the Thin Blue Line is diminished,
an officer’s final tour of duty is finished.
"Officer down", it’s our greatest fear,
and once again, I hold back a tear.
They patrol in the state, city, county and town,
in uniforms colored white, green, blue and brown.
The shape of their badges may vary,
but it’s a symbol that they all, proudly carry.
They leave for work with a kiss goodbye,
but some don’t come home, no matter how hard they try.
To uphold the law is the job that they pick,
with such high aspirations, why must some die so quick?
They leave behind loved ones, family and friends,
after their lives have met tragic ends.
Some die in crashes, others hearts not too stout,
to many have been lost when gunshots ring out.
Our Heavenly Father has called them home,
no more these dark streets do they roam.
Through trial and error they have given their best,
please Lord, now grant them eternal rest.
Yet once again the Thin Blue Line is diminished,
an officer’s final tour of duty is finished.
"Officer down", it’s our greatest fear,
and once again I hold back a tear.
(By Master Trooper Dave “Stumpy” Miller )

God Bless brothers and sisters, and may the Peace that passes all understanding consume you.

To Corporal Mike Roberts:

Our duty as police officers is fraught with danger. Hardly any of it we face exceeds the confrontation involving a person, bent on crime, and armed with a gun. Make no mistake, it is their warped and criminal mind that makes them dangerous, not what they conceal on their person that makes them cowards, trash and scum. They strike by surprise and run like rats only to later wimper and plead for their lives -- even sometimes killing themselves as the final proof that are gutless freaks.

Our hope is that every law officer who confronts them in the future incidents -- and there will be more -- prepare themselves to survive. Each of us can approach and speak with those we address civilly, respectfully, and courteously, but also be prepared do whatever-it-takes to preserve our lives, go home to our family and serve the public another day.

Our prayers are with you, your family and all those who are close to you. We hope that the assistance, compassion and help from your department, family and friends, here on earth, will be as certain as God's mercy from heaven.

As a retired PA state trooper and also a retired Lake County FL deputy sheriff I am proud to render you a final salute.

Cpl. Ralph D. Fiorenza (Ret.)
Pennylvania State Police

May God Bless Cpl. Roberts and both his family and the one he had at TPD. I was separated from my agency in December of 2008 after a second spinal surgery in less than 2 years resulting in 3 fused disks and have been advised to retire. The Dedication of Cpl. Roberts has made me start to slowly work outand try tp pass the agility test to return to work instead of retire like my Dr's have suggested. If I succeed and again wear a uniform, I shall owe it to the heroism and dedication of Cpl. Roberts. Keep watch in the streets of gold my brother, you earned your reward and deserve to be in paradise after serving in hell here on earth. God bless you and maintain watch over your family.

When I saw your picture on the news for the first time, I knew exactly who you were. We never formally met but having been your dispatcher in the past, I have seen you in the communications center on more than one occasion. I'm so sadden to see you leave this earth. Although I believe you are in a better place now, you will truly be missed. I hope you know how many lives you have touched. You are and will always be remembered as a HERO. I pray for your wife, son and extended family and I hope they find comfort knowing you died protecting us all. We love you and remember you always. R.I.P Cpl Mike Roberts

As I sit here reading these reflections I am reminded of the time when Mike went with a group of us to the State of Florida Police Memorial in Tallahassee. He made us laugh so hard on the FOP bus ride. Mike is a great person with an unbelievable sense of humor. Mike is truly a HERO. I honestly can't believe he is gone.
Mike honored those that had walked the thin blue line and had fallen. His name will now be on the Honor wall and I will honor him and never forget him. I cherish what he brought to my life. I will be praying for his family and may he rest in peace.
