Just read about this story online and it broke my heart. Though I do not know you personally, I wanted to send my condolences out the family of this officer as well as all the other officers and their families who gave their lives so bravely as a result of this tragic event. Our officers everywhere men and women work so hard to protect us all and keep us safe. You gave your lives just doing " your jobs". My God Bless you and be with you always. May God Be with the families and fellow Oakland officers during this tragic time of grief.

My prayers are with all of you. Rest in peace heroes.

Prayers to your families, your department and your community

A portion of something I wrote in 2003:

Some people wonder why so many Officers converge on towns across this nation, when an Officer is Killed In The Line Of Duty. I can simply say, that they come to pay respects to someone who did the job they do, in support of other Officers, as a show of respect to family, and to show Pride, Integrity and Honor for a fallen hero whose community has lost a friend. I have attended way to many of these but if you shed a tear for another, it will help cleanse your soul. It is the memories that will get you through the years.

Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death and though I mark on duty, my calls unknown, I fear no evil, for the majority are with me, nor do I worry of my own safety, all of this I do for the citizens of my community. An Officer’s family can be filled with worry and though they are strong, they know that their loved one may be placed in harms way. Through this, they stand tall, with Pride, Integrity and Honor.

Though I have made mistakes, accept me, as I accept you and show me the way …..Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

This is a grief that will not soon pass. It is simply not supposed to.

You must feel and experience every minute of it for it to ever feel normal.

It will come to you at times that are not expected.

When it comes, let it take you and allow yourself to own it.

It will be the memory of Mark and his crew, with you, there for you, to help you through it. That grief and those tears;
there forever.

Don't try to make it go away. It is supposed to stay. That 5 minutes of heaving tears, will remind you of the love you had for these important men.

This part of what these brave Officers agree to do when they swear into service for us all, is never expected.

We are not supposed to loose them.

For Mark's family, please know that the entire family of law enforcement is stricken by the loss and you are in all of our thoughts.

Blessed are the Peacemakers for they shall be called the sons of God. My heart hurts and my tears run; I am proud to be an officer and hold each and everyone of the fallen officers close in my heart and thoughts. May your family celebrate your time with them and may they not hold anger in their hearts. GOD SPEED and thank you for serving and protecting those who respect and believe in us.

Mark, I remember speaking to you at a party with Noel and Lynn in 1994 just before I entered the SFPD Academy. I wanted to be an Oakland cop but was eventually picked up by SF in 1995. Lynn was pregnant with Mason and he was born one month to the day prior to me starting the academy. He is now 14 and my buddy. Logan is my god son and Hunter is my sons friend. I knew you to be a stand up cop who was practical and fair. I don't know what happened as it all unfolded so quickly. I grieve for your family and am sorry you cannot be there to finish raising your kids as well as you were doing it to date. I am sorry for Angela and the hurt that savage brought to your family. What a coward. Well my friend and cop brother you are going up and he is going down. Your passing will forever leave an extra sense of caution to my daily shift. God Bless You!!!
