Reflections for Police Officer Joshuah Patrick Broadway

Thank you so much for your sacrifice, it is such a shame that your life had to end so soon. May God Bless your family in a mighty way and give them peace of mind that you did a job you liked very much. May He also bless your Dept. and your fellow officers and keep them safe on the streets.

Although I did not know you personally, my husband and brother worked with you on numerous occasions. You were spoken of highly and your passing has had a great effect on the community. You will be missed by many. But your name will be carried on longer than we will be here. You are a hero for us all. We can only be glad to know that God took you because he needed another angel to watch over the rest of us. Rest is peace brother.

Josh, we carried you out of Frasier Church and into Forest Hills Cemetary with full Police Honors. As one of your training officers, I was never supposed to carry you to your final resting place. I read through each of your training reports on the day your watch ended. I smiled at the progress you made from start to finish of your second phase of training. As I have returned to work, parts of the city remind me of the days we rode together before you put on the badge and gun, and the days we rode as FTO and Officer in Training. You were too young to leave this world, but you will never be forgotten for the short time you were able to police in Montgomery. It will be hard to see your picture added to the Patrol Room wall, your plaque added to the lobby and your name engraved on the Fallen Officer Monument in front of Headquarters. I am able to move forward knowing that I will see you again in Heaven one day.

For those who don't know, 10-42 is the code for ending tour of duty. Officer Broadway's tour ended on 01/25/2009. We will never forget him. The day after the funeral I stopped by a gas station that we both frequented on shift. We would always meet there to talk and kill a little time on shift. The attendant is a guy from Bangladesh by the name of Mahbub. We also talked to Mahbub a lot and of course he liked having officers in the store with him as this gas station was in a bad area. I walked in and he ran up to show me the pictures in the paper of the funeral and Josh. He was shocked that it was him and for the next little while he just talked about Josh and he even teared up while talking about him. I was not surprised by this because I knew how great of a guy Josh was but I thought this was a great story to show people who did not know Josh just how much he was liked. The below poem is a good one. I don't know who wrote it, but I do know where I got it. It was posted in the comments section on Josh's page by his older brother Jamie back in August. (I know, pretty crazy huh?) At least we know that Josh knew he was loved and that his family knew the risks of his job and that they did not take him for granted. At the end of the poem Jamie wrote: Hey josh you better stay alert...It would be hard for me to live if you went 10-42.

Why did you have to leave so soon?
I had just talked to you earlier that afternoon.
We were laughing and carrying on had I only known.
Had I known how the afternoon was going to end all wrong.

It hasn’t been the same since you’ve been gone.
I heard the call and I was on the way,
I’ll never forget finding you that day.
It ripped my heart to see you injured like that.

I did for you what you could not do filling your lungs with each breath,
while others did the rest.
I stayed with you till you were flown from the scene
hoping to wake and find it all to be a dream.

It was extremely hard to face the fact,
you were gone and never coming back.
You were a great cop and a good friend,
but why did it all have to suddenly end.

So tragically taken from this world
your friends, family and wife.
You paid the ultimate price
and they all represent the supreme sacrifice.

You served mankind well and did
a thankless job that few would choose to do.
Knowing what the consequences could bring,
you accepted the task without hesitation,
giving your life for our preservation.

You were laid to rest with Honors
in such a glorious way we will never forget.
Bugles playing, drums tapping and
bagpipes piping as the twenty-one gun
salute echoed in the air while we stood at attention.

Now I wake to another dawn
wondering why it had to go wrong.
Thoughts of you will always remain,
but things are not the same------
since you went 10-42.

Josh, we love you and we will always remember the good times we had with you and I look forward to meeting your child in August. Hopefully it will be a little Josh Jr.

I fear that mere words cannot console his family, friends, co-workers, and all who came in contact with him. My heartfelt prayers go up for you all.

For our brothers and sisters at Montgomery PD: you stood by us, in your hearts and in person, when we lost Deputy Sarah Jones, who had recently come to us from your agency. Know that we stand with you during this tragic time--you need only say the word.

When I arrived at the hospital and saw the overload of police officers, I knew something had happen to one of you. I am deeply sadden to see another one of you (police officer) go.

I want to be positive and say that you went home to our heavenly father. Being Christians we fully understand the peace that God can give us when we ask Hin for it. Family, stay strong. You are an inspiration to many including me. I have never had anyone close to me all of a sudden not be here anymore. Each officer that dies and is brought here (JH) always touches my heart.

To the Montgomery County Police Department, I got to love you all!!! You all know how to be there for one another.

My sincere sympathies to Montgomery Police for your loss. A few months ago, we lost Deputy Sarah Jones,; who came to us from Montgomery PD. Her friends from MPD came to share our grief, and now, sadly it has been visited on you all as well.

You will be in our thoughts and prayers; as we can well understand your circumstance.

To Josua's family; please know were are thinking of you as well. God bless.

According to these reflections, Josh knew Jesus personally and that
blesses me greatly as I know I will meet you face to face one day
and be able to thank you for your sacrifice. There is none greater than
Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We don't get to Heaven based on
what we do,but what He did for us!! AMEN! Thank you for your fine
example to those that worked with you and knew you. There is now a
huge void that cannot be filled, but as you are remembered, thoughts will
turn to your exemplary life and we will be filled with pride and respect
and love for the man you became. You were a wonderful testimony to
the Lord you served. God be with all those who mourn and may His
promises lift all those with heavy hearts for many years to come. This is
sad beyond words.

Thinking of you and all of your loved ones. I know some will ask, I wonder what kind of officer you would grown to be. I'm sure you were already that type of officer that I would have been proud and honored to serve with. Keep watch over all of your loved ones and protect them. Also, watch over those still out on patrol. You will never be forgotten by those that love you.
