To the family of Sarah,
Hi, my name is Karissa Smith and i was stationed with Sarah at Whiteman AFB, Missouri. Sarah was a good friend of mine. I was from Indiana and we used to jump in her red Sunfire and she would drop me off in Indiana and continue on to Michigan and pick me back up after the weekend was over. We had so many memories together and i will always cherish those.
Please accept my condolences, i am so sorry about your loss. Sarah was a shining star. She always wanted to be a cop, i can remember the stories she used to tell me. She followed her heart and dreams and became one, i was so proud of her. She invited me to her wedding but i was stationed in Korea and could not make it.
I just received this link in an e-mail yesterday, i am so sorry i haven't written sooner...i did not know. I actually just e-mailed Sarah a few weeks ago and wondered why i didn't receive a response.
You are all in my thoughts & prayers. Please know that Sarah is looking down on all of you.
God Bless,
Karissa Smith

Sarah,
It's been 3.5 months since your passing and I think about you every day. We may not have been that close, but I always thought of you as the little sister I never had.

Chris is planning a memorial 5K in your honor and along with Big Steve and Tim will be attending Police Week and making sure that you honored just as you deserve to be.

We all miss you dearly and know that you are watching and protecting us from above.

So it's been a few months. I never knew you but I know a good deal of officers in the MCSD, IUPD, & BPD. They're organizing a 5k run/walk in your honor set for this summer. They miss you. Thank you for everything while you were here.

I had the privledge of attending Sarah's memorial service. To the family, please accept my condolences from a stranger. I was a long way from home at that time but when I was told by my brother (who knew Sarah)of the tragedy, I actually wanted to do what I could. It doesn't matter what kind of LEO a person is or where they are from. We are a family. What I know of Sarah, she was young, eager and brave, her loss is a tragedy. For those close to her, may God give you strength.

My heart and prayers go out to the people left behind in Sarah's life. I want to honor her memory by riding in the Police Unity Tour in May. A 300+ bicycle ride from New Jersey to Washington DC, pulling into the memorial for police week. We carry the names of the fallen with us on the ride and bring them home to the memorial. I was a detective until August, I made the difficult decision to leave a job I loved to be a stay at home mom. Riding in Sarah's name will not only be an honor, but a farewell to my own career. For anyone attending the candlelight memorial in Sarah's memory in May, we will be there, supporting you. God bless your family and the long road ahead.

To the family of Deputy Sarah Haylett-Jones,
My wife and I attended a Project Blue Light Memorial Service to remember fallen officers. We lost one of our brothers Deputy Kevin Sherwood, EOW 10-9-03 and it always helps to remeber. At this ceremony in Roscommon, MI we had the opportunity to meet Sarah's grandparents (sorry, names were not given). They shared her story with us. It is obvious she was a wonderful and well loved person and officer. May God be with her family at this tragic time and protect those who are still walking the beat.

To the family and friends of Deputy Haylett-Jones and the members of the Monroe County Sheriff's Office

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Sarah was tragically killed.

To her family, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in the Bay Area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.

In reading her reflections, I can see that Sarah was an amazing young woman who will be missed by so many.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the service Sarah gave to her community and the citizens of Indiana, and for the supreme sacrifice she and her family made on October 19, 2008.

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Everytime I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the officer they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Deputy Haylett-Jones, especially to her husband. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. I can also be found on face book. You will be in my thoughts.

From reading the reflections left for Sarah, she sounds like she was a great woman with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew her in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Sarah's life and the WOMAN that she was. Remember that Sarah's life was about so much more than the way she died. Sarah will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember her.

Deputy Haylett-Jones, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been almost six years but we still miss him terribly.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

ASCENSION

And if I go,
While you’re still here---
Know that I live on,
Vibrating to a different measure
--behind a thin veil you cannot see through.
You will not see me,
So you must have faith.
I wait for the time when we can soar together again,
--both aware of each other.
Until then, live your life to its fullest,
And when you need me,
Just whisper my name in your heart,
…I will be there.

We lost a good officer and friend. I went to school with Sarah and the Branch Area Career Center and also worked in the Explorer program with her when I was with Coldwater. She was a good person and would help anyone she could. My deepest prayers with Sarah's family.
