Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Sarah Irene Haylett-Jones

Miss Ya! I was talking about our crazy police academy days today. It seems like just yesterday we were getting yelled at in formation. You will never be forgotten.

Today SEPT. 11TH is an emotional day. Most of the country remember the terrorist attack on America with so many lives taken needlessly. MI State Trooper Paul Butterfield was shot and killed in the line of Duty. You Sarah are remembered with sad hearts of yet another life taken needlessly. Today is a very sad day. We love you and miss your bright smile. Knowing we will see you again where there will always be happiness and no more tears or pain.

Each time I walk into the squad room Sarah's picture is there, framed, for all of us to see as a reminder of both what sacrifice Sarah gave, as well as just how fragile we are in the profession we have chosen. May God be with Sarah's family and may they find comfort in the memories they share of her. MT5:4

A fitting poem for your faithful service to the USAF

Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth,
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds...and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of...wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up, the long, delirious burning blue
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, nor even eagle flew.
And while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space...
...put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

I always reflect on the death of a Police Officer, their time is not now. The job dictates when and how it happens.
Kim, your Daughter give the ultimate scacifice. May she rest in Peace.

The night shift has been pretty slow tonight, which has given me more time to think of you. I can not believe four years has already flown by. We weren't able to make the Fall Harvest at your parents last weekend, but I hear they did pretty well (despite the drought we had this year). I was pretty disappointed that we couldn't make it because it always reminds me so much of you. I am just glad that your memory lives on and that others get to know you through the memorial scholarship. Missing you as always.

Love ya'

Here it is 4 years already since that tragic day a simple call to assist, changed our lives forever. Thinking of you often, but almost constantly these last couple of days. Sometimes I wonder where we all got the strength to conquer and courage to go on....I think we got that from you! I know you are watching over us....everyone is doing well. Are you surprised?

As I sit in Heaven, and watch you every day
I try and let you know with signs, I never went away . . .
I hear you when your laughing, and I watch you as you sleep,
I even place my arms around you to calm you as you weep.
I see you wish the days away, begging to have me home
So I try and send you signs, so you know your not alone . . .
Don't feel guilty that you have a life that was denied to me,
Heaven is truely Beautiful, just you wait and see !
So live your life, laugh again, enjoy yourself, be free,
Then I'll know with every breath you take,
You'll be taking one for me !

Sarah, I know you are there, I see, feel, & hear your signs . . .
This verse has helped me turn another page in my life,
I continue to Love You Always . . . Mom

How I hear your "laugh", as I am watching Gunter & Lilly chase the squirrels in the yard....

Hoping that in the next coming week, Police Week, people take a minute out of their day to glance at the frame I made to see how special a Hero you are to us..

I didn't know you, but a few years ago I had the priviledge of running in your honor at the National Police Week 5K here in DC. I have completed this race a few times, and each year it has been an honor to read about the dedicated service and sacrifices made to keep the rest of us safe, and do my part, even one as small as running. Thank you again for your service.
