Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Marty Michael Martin

Marty i can tell you im going to miss you, you were a great uncle and even though i never said it you were a hero to me. I was hoping as long as you were in law enforcement you would never go but it seems that came to a dreadful halt. Every night i will weep for your passing and pray that you're dancing at the pearly gates. I Love You

I have sat here for over an hour trying to figure out what to say. It has become painfully clear that words will never be able to convey who Marty was. In simplistic terms he was a Husband, Father, Friend and Mentor.

It is even harder to find any word or groups of words which would adequately convey our support to his family and friends while also expressing our sympathy and our own pain during this time.

To Marty's wife and family know that you will never be alone. An entire community will never forget Marty or his contributions both personal and professional. You and Marty will always be in our thoughts and prayers.

"The Final Inspection"

The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges
can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.

There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

Rest in peace Brother

To the Family of Deputy Martin
Your complete family are in my families prayers during this dark time. My family is just starting to make it thru a lost of our own with the death of my future son in-law Josh Norris. Marty was taken to early and should of have had more time with you guys. I know words at this time will never stop the hurt, but know your Husband and Dad is not far from you, he is the whisper in the wind, that feeling of being hugged when no one is there, he will always be at your side watching over ever accomplishment and catching ever tear that you guys shed. What has helped my family and may help yours, remember your love ones laugh, his smile and all those things that are unique to him, since they are truly what made him. He is a true hero in every sense of the word and your police family extends it arms to you, if this one from Louisiana can do anything do not hesitate to ask. God bless you and may he give you strength.

Deputy John Latour
Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office
