I AM DEEPLY SADDENED BY THE LOSS OF A BROTHER. CHRIS KANE WAS A HIGHLY DEVOTED POLICE OFFICER IN THIS AGENCY AND THERE WAS NEVER A TASK TOO BIG FOR HIM. OFFICER KANE WAS THE TYPE OF PERSON WHO WOULD GIVE THE SHIRT OFF OF HIS BACK TO ASSIST ANOTHER OFFICER. HE WAS ALSO ONE OF THE FEW OFFICERS THAT WAS ACTUALLY TALLER THAN ME (6'5----6'4). I PRAY THAT HIS FAMILY WILL BE ABLE TO STAY STRONG DURING THIS DIFFICULT TIME AND I OFFER THEM MY SINCERE CONDOLENCES. CHRIS....YOU WILL BE DEEPLY MISSED AND ALWAYS REMEMBERED. THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR HARD WORK AND DEDICATION THAT YOU HAVE PROVIDED IN YOUR 12 YEARS. REST IN PEACE BROTHER.

"All mankind is of one author, and is one volume; when one man dies, one chapter is not torn out of the book, but translated into a better language; and every chapter must be so translated...As therefore the bell that rings to a sermon, calls not upon the preacher only, but upon the congregation to come: so this bell calls us all: but how much more me, who am brought so near the door by this sickness....No man is an island, entire of itself...any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee."

Chris,

You were a man of honor, integrity, character, and morality. You loved your job and did it with pride. You always had a smile on your face and always willing to help others. You were a great servant to your community and your loss will be felt deeply. Your family will be in our thoughts and prayers. The department has lost a true warrior and a great leader.

Police Officer's Prayer to St. Michael:

Saint Michael, heaven's glorious commissioner of police,
who once so neatly and successfully cleared God's premises
of all its undesirables, look with kindly and professional
eyes on your earthly force.

Give us cool heads, stout hearts, and uncanny flair for
investigation and wise judgement.

Make us the terror of burglars, the friend of children and
law-abiding citizens, kind to strangers, polite to bores,
strict with law-breakers and impervious to temptations.

You know, Saint Michael, from your own experiences
with the devil that the police officer's lot on earth is not
always a happy one; but your sense of duty that so
pleased God, your hard knocks that so surprised the
devil, and your angelic self-control give us inspiration.

And when we lay down our night sticks, enroll us in your
heavenly force, where we will be as proud to guard the
throne of God as we have been to guard the city of all
the people. Amen.

May you rest in peace now with God my brother. We will take the watch from here.

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the rightous judge, will award me on that day.." 2 Timothy.

"For he is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God's wrath on the wrongdoer." Romans 13

God speed brother.

Thank you for 12 years of service and thank you for the lessons I learned riding by your side as rookie in Zone 2. You were truly the definition of work ethic. May you rest in God's hands. Job well done. You will be truly missed bro.

Chris always went the extra mile. A true brother in blue he did the job for the love of the time honored prefession. He always gave 110% and never had a cross word to say about the job. His intensity level never dropped from day one to year twelve. He will be deeply missed.

Officer Christopher Kane,

Not all of the hazards of our job are initiated by those bent on injuring or killing a law officer. Sometimes it is simply being on the highway which is still one of the nation's most dangerous battlefields. To have died while providing safety to others is the act of a hero. Dedication and Commitment speak for you now and they welcome you the Evergreen Shores of Eternity to join the legion of law officers who have made the sacrifice before.

As a retired Pennsylvania state trooper and a retired Lake County (FL) sheriff's deputy, I proudly render you a final salute.

Cpl. Ralph D. Fiorenza (Ret.)

I met Chris about one month out of training. We were on a call together that turned into a marathon s.w.a.t call out. He was aware that I was a rookie, and he took the time to explain things to me as well as continually fuss at me about staying behind cover and talk about tactics. In the hours that I spent with him on that call I reveived quite an education. Over the next year I ran into him on occassion. I never saw the guy without a smile on his face. He loved his job and his absence will truly be felt. I think for the giant that he was, remarkebly his heart was even bigger.

Commander Kane, that is what I called you every time, I saw you and the first thing out of your mouth was I am a Gunnery Sgt of Marines, get down and give me fifty Staff Sergeant. That is how you greeted me and then you would ask, is there anything I can do to help you. I just spoke to you earlier on that date and we talked. Now that you’re not around, I will miss your friendship, your sense of humor, and your help. Rest in peace now Gunny, we got the watch. Hooo rahhh God needed a fine Marine in heaven. I love you and miss you. Semper Fi Marine!
