I never met you Rich, but can't say enough of the sacrifice you've made. In doing your job, you've given your life so that others may live. Your watch is not over, it's just been taken to another level, because I know you'll be there to watch over those of us still here.

To Cpl. Findley's family, you know you are our family as well, and if there is EVER anything you need, you don't have to look for an officer you know, just find the first one you can, and whatever you need is yours. You are in all our prayers. Thanks, Rich....you will be missed.

Blood Upon the Shield

Confrontation in an alley.

The Centurion does not yield.

But this time the good guy loses;

there is blood upon the shield.

And mournful sounds of bagpipes

play out across the land,

drowned out by the sobs of a lonely wife

and child who does not understand.

While the killer pleads his case in court,

the thin blue line is one man short.

And we're one step closer to society's fall;

another cop's name is engraved upon the wall.

Another state funeral, with an army in blue,

and we know it could've been me and it could've been you.

We all look ahead to what the future has in store,

front line troopers in a country that's at war.

A war with itself and at war with its cops

and we're out there every day cause the battle never stops.

It's not the way it is on TV or like we learned in school;

no cool music in the background, no playing by the "rules".

We're disillusioned warriors,

but for right we're always strive.

We pray that at the end of our stress-filled day

we'll get back home alive.

You stand out on the corner ignorning the insults and stares,

close the the point of believing that no one really cares,

when a six year old boy walks over after watching,

he asks why your badge

is covered by a black elastic band,

tell him about our brother

a cop who made a stand.

Final Inspection

The Policeman stood and faced his God, Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, officer. How shall I deal with You?
Have you always turned the other cheek? To my Church have you been true?"

The officer squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Cause those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.

But I never took a penny that wasn't mine to keep,
Though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills just got too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help, though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me, I wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place among the people here.
They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand.
I've never expected or had too much. But if you don't, I'll understand."

There was silence all around the throne where the saints had often trod.
As the officer waited quietly for the answer of his God.

"Step forward now, Officer, you've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's Streets. You've done your time in Hell."

I had the opportunity to know and work with you in the past. Then as we moved on to our careers, we crossed paths several times as I was assigned to Hillandale and you in Beltsville. You always demonstrated professionalism and dedication. You will be truly missed.

May God look after your wife and daughters. Rest in peace.

Cpl. Findley is a HERO. Sadly my heart bleeds tonight as I read of yet another HERO who's life was cut short by the evil in this world. I often drove through PG County when I was stationed at NAS Patuxent River, Maryland. I have the utmost respect for all Law Enforcement as I was raised by my Grandfather a Milford, CT Police Officer and Somerset County, ME Sheriff's Deputy. To Cpl Findley's family, I am sorry for your loss, I wish I could say some words to ease your pain, but I wouldn't know where to begin. Cpl Findley, you served your community and the great state of Maryland well my brother. I aspire one day, upon retirement from ths U.S. Navy, to follow in your shoes and enter the law enforcement family as a Maryland State Trooper. Cpl Findley you will always be a HERO in my book.

As I watched the news this evening from the eastern shore, I saw the picture of Richard and heard his name. I am shocked and deeply saddened of this tragic loss. Richard and I worked together for a few years on a private ambulance and became very good friends. We would run into each other now and then and take a moment to catch up. As I turn in tonight, I will say a prayer for Richard and his family as well as for myself. To Richard's wife and children, your husband and father was a very good man. Rest in peace my friend, you will be missed.

-Out of the night that covers me, Black as the Pit from pole to pole,I thank whatever gods may be for my unconquerable Soul.
-In the fell clutch of circumstance, I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of chance, My head is bloody, but unbowed.
-Beyond this place of wrath and tears, looms but the horror of the shade, and yet the menace of the years finds, and shall find me unafraid.
-it matters not how strait the gate, how charged with punishments the scroll, I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul. "Invictus" by William Henley

We love you, Brother.
