My thoughts and prayers are with the family of Trooper Blanton. An end like this was certainly undeserved. It is my sincere prayer that the maggot who is responsible for this tragedy feels the sting of a needle real soon. To the men and women of the NCSHP, thanks for being professional, thanks for what you do and most all, thanks for being there! May God be with Trooper Blanton's family and with you all in the days ahead as you somehow try to deal with this tragic loss. Godspeed Trooper Blanton.

As a retired NC law enforcement officer and former NC State Trooper who served in the Cheorkee area, I am sickened by this senseless murder of such a fine young Trooper. The Blanton family are wonderful people and I know how proud they were to have a member of the Cherokee Tribe to be a NC Trooper.

So many good NC Troopers and officers have been killed in Haywood County and Western NC. He is the 4th NC Trooper to be killed in the line of duty in Haywood County since 1985. It makes me livid. The piece of garbage that executed him caused all of this over a registration violation. Unbelievable.

My deepest condolences to my friends and colleagues of the NC Highway Patrol and the NC law enforcement community, but most of all, I offer my thoughts and prayers to the family of Shawn Blanton. God Bless brother, we have the watch from here.

“ Policeman’s Prayer”

When I start my tour of duty God,
Wherever crime may be,
As I walk the darkened streets alone,
Let me be close to thee.

Please give me understanding with
Both the young and old.
Let me listen with attention
Until their story’s told..
Let me never make a judgment
In a rush or callous way,
But let me hold my patience
Let each man have his say

Lord if some dark and dreary night,
I must give my life,
Lord, with your everlasting love
Protect my children and my wife.

Michaela,

My heart goes out to you and your family. When some of the troopers called me this morning to let me know the news, I almost dropped to my knees. They had no idea we had met and I had just emailed you last night about your precious Ty. How can I even put my feelings into words. No one should ever have to travel this hard road. I have been praying daily for your newborn baby, but I know now there's a reason he was born early. Ty came into this world so he could meet his Daddy. I know Shawn must have been so proud of his beautiful family. Please know that I will be here for you, and you will never have to go through this alone. You have my numbers so please call if you need anything. We are all here for you.
