Reflections for Police Officer Randal David Simmons

I would like to send my condolences to the family of Officer Simmons, and to his L.A.P.D. family as well by saying, weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. And this is when the peace of God that passes all understanding will come and abide in your hearts.
Absent from the body is present with the Lord and may the Work he did speak for him.

My Brother

Although I never met him, I knew him.

He was idealistic and believed he could make a difference.

He was immensely proud of the uniform and the badge and what

they represent.

He felt privileged to be of service to his department, his

community and to his country.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.

He was friendly, courteous, and polite, yet firm.

He laughed and joked, but was serious when necessary.

He was competent, trained, and professional.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.

He had a strong sense of right and wrong and became

frustrated when true justice became sidetracked.

He felt the sharp criticism that goes with the job, but he

never wavered.

He stood by and for his fellow officers.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.

He longed for his family during the long hours.

He worried about them during his shifts and the lonely

weekends, holidays and midnights when they were apart.

He felt guilty about the lost time, but knew his calling

and prayed they would understand.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.

He was a good son, a loving husband, and a devoted father.

He was dedicated to the profession and cared about the

people he served.

He wanted to do the best job that he could and strived to

be the best he could be.

He was a good citizen and a good neighbor.

He was a cop.

Yes, I did know him.

He was a cop, he was my brother.

I am forever in awe of those who daily risk life and limb and act as though it's a normal thing. They are heroes every moment of every day and like all heroes, sometimes they pay the ultimate price for their boundless courage. My condolences to the family and friends, specially to officer Randal's wife and parents. May the burden of your pain lighten with the passage of time.

I would like the Simmons family and the LAPD family know that the officers of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department that came to know Randy now understand his reputation amongst us as a gently giant.

I first met Randy in 1994, then saw him again in 1998, and he approached me like a long lost friend. A true prince among men.

We can rest in the comfort that St. Michael now has a true warrior protecting the Pearly Gates.

Rest in peace my friend, for the legacy you leave here will surely be carried on by the men and women that you have touched during your glorious life on this earth. Be they hardened SWAT cops, or the impressionable young men and women that you mentored.

"Of every 100 men, 10 shouldn't even be here. 80 are nothing more than targets. 9 are real fighters, We are lucky to have them, they the battle make. Ahh, but the one...one of them is a Warrior, and he will bring the others back." - Heraclitus c. 500 B.C.

Randy, you were the one. A true warrior.

To the Simmons family, my family's prayers go out to you in this time of sorrow. Randy, save a spot in the Lord's stack for me my brother.

I was in the grocery store today. I happened across The Press-Enterprise. I saw a picture of Officer Simmons and some of the kids that he dedicated his time to. I was watching when everything happened and just felt sad upon hearing about such a tragic loss.

I always hope that my son has the quality that makes my husband good at his job, being a father and husband. As I read the article i find myself also wanting some of Officer Simmons being thrown into there.

i cannot imagine being in is families postion, well I choose not to imagine. He was a great man in a crazy world. It just hurts my heart knowing that someone could be taken away by someone who did not care. I often find myself asking where are we going??

To his family.... I know you would want him here, but be proud of who he is and what he stood for. To all his SWAT family, stay strong and fight the fight for him. I am deeply sorry for your loss.

RIP

Officer Simmons:

I'd never met you but I heard from the news that you were a man of faith.

Please allow me to share a bible verse which I keep close to my heart:
For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He's God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. Roman 13:4 (NIV)

So Long Brother. You paid the ultimate sacrifice doing God's will.

Though I have never met you, I regard you as my "true hero". I thank God for your selflessness, courage, and dedication to serving humanity. It deeply saddens me to hear of a brother of law enforcement leaving beyond our control. Conversely, I am filled with pride knowing that you have contributed to keeping this world safe. "We are separated by distance, but we are united at heart". Our shields never tarnish, they will always shine to honor you, and other fallen Brother. May God protect your family; and your soul rest peacefully in tact.

I recently had training here in Kansas instructed by one of you team members. I was very impressed with the pride he showed in his team. I thank you for you sacrifice. While others claim to make a difference in the world you actually did it as a daily routine. May God be with you and your family.
