Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Charles Edward Cassidy

Practically every day here at work, I give one of my officers a hard time because his brother works for PPD. Today when he said that PPD had lost another, initially, I thought that Officer Richard Decoatsworth's condition had suddenly taken a turn for the worst. That rookie's heart and courage after being shot (chasing the perp for three blocks), is what I have been sharing with the less-tenured officers here.

I was truly saddened to see that yet another PPD officer had been shot. My sincere condolences go out to the Family and Friends of Officer Cassidy.

I see that Solomon Montgomery has already copped a plea bargain. I will refrain from typing anything more.....

God bless Officer Cassidy, may he rest easy. God bless his family. Lord, they will need Your grace and comfort at this time. God bless Philadelphia PD and the community. They lost a brother and a friend, a protector and warrior.

Your extended law enforcement family, friends, and good people everywhere will never forget what you did for us.

Peace be with you.

A POLICEMAN'S PRAYER
BROTHER WHEN YOU WEEP FOR ME REMEMBER THAT IT WAS MEANT TO BE.
LAY ME DOWN AND WHEN YOU LEAVE REMEMBER I'LL BE AT YOUR SIDE...IN EVERY DARK AND DREARY ALLEY I'LL BE THERE AS YOU SLOWLY TREAD, ON EVERY STREET CORNER IN THE DRIVING SNOW I'LL HOLD YOUR COAT AND YOU WILL KNOW.
IN PLACES WHERE THE DEVIL IS AFRAID TO WALK...
AT DOORS WHERE YOU MEET RESISTANCE...
IN HOUSES WHERE CHILDREN HIDE...
YOU KNOW I'LL BE AT YOUR SIDE.
THE PLACE FROM WHICH I NOW RESPOND IS OVERSTAFFED WITH HEROES GONE...MEN WHO ANSWERED ONE LAST JOB AND DID IT WELL.
AS POLICEMEN WE UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS A CARD DEALT IN OUR HAND...A CARD WE HOPE WE NEVER PLAY BUT WE HOLD IT THERE ANYWAY.
THE CARD IS SOMETHING WE IGNORE AS WE STAND ON THAT THIN BLUE LINE EVERY TOUR...FOR WE KNOW THAT WE ARE THE ONLY PRAYER FOR MANY OUT THERE.
SO REMEMBER, AS YOU WIPE YOUR TEARS, THE JOY I HAVE KNOWN THROUGHOUT THE YEARS...AS THE JOB I LOVED TO DO I PRAY THAT THIS THOUGHT WILL SEE YOU THROUGH.

Chuck,

It is an honor to have known you. You never stopped being a cop. After 25 years, you were still more aggressive than the newest of rookies. You will never be forgotten brother.

I just read of Officer Cassidy's passing. He gave 25 years of his life to the job and his family should be proud of him. As I read his story it hits so close to home. Every night my Husband goes in for his daily dose of coffee ordered the same way. I will pray for Officer Cassidy and his family. May they find comfort knowing all those that suport them.
Rest in Peace Officer Cassidy, you deserve it!

Chuck was the guy that always said hello to you and never had a bad word to say about anybody. Chuck was the kinda cop that would come in early to gather information and would stay late to finish a job without complaint. Chuck was the kinda cop that you felt good knowing he was out there. People that knew him were lucky to have had the chance. Its such a shock and it hasn't even sunk in yet that he won't be around.... Losing Chuck is like losing a member of the family. He was truly one of the best officers at the 35th District if not the entire department. He will be so truly missed.

"A Part Of America Died",

Somebody killed a policeman today,
And part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect,
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect that shot him will stand up in court,
With counsel demanding his rights.
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids,
And spend many long lonely nights.
The beat he walked was a battle field too
just as if he had gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
In your town or mine,
While we slept in comfort behind locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And stands at each new rookies' side.
He answered the call,of himself and gave his all,
And a part of America died.
