Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Germaine Ferris Casey

To the family of Officer Germaine Casey, my heart a goes out to all of you and may god be with you all!!!! To the motor unit of Rio Rancho, I know how you feel losing one of your partners. I lost my partner almost two months ago. Hang in there and may god be with all of you!!!!

The policeman stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
that wasn't mine to keep
though I worked a lot of overtime
when the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
among the people here.
They never wanted me around
except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne
where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
for the judgment of his god.

"Step forward now, policeman,
you’ve born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
you’ve done your time in hell"

Family of Officer Casey:
Thank you for your sacrifice. I am sure you will honor his memory in your future lives. I was asked by my son when he was in middle school " Dad what is a Hero?" To him (now a LEO of whom I am proud)I replied " The officer who goes on out into a night shift every time, even when he does not feel like it, because his partners or the citizens just might need him."
Officer Casey looks like that kind of Hero.

Dear Germaine,

My heart is broken. I am so sad by this tragedy. We worked together at UNM PD and helped each other on many calls. Then we worked together again when you came to Rio Rancho and I was at Sandoval SO. You became a good friend to me. You helped me through a low point and I will always be grateful for your friendship. I am sad that I will never hear your voice or laughter again as it echoes in my mind. You were easy going, kind hearted and a gentle giant. Who would of thought this could ever happen. I never heard you speak badly of anyone and you always recognized the positive. You touched many people's lives Germaine, and I cannot say this of many people, what I can say about you, and that is you are a man of honor with a good heart and you will be missed by many as you have made the ultimate sacrifice. I pray for your wife and your children. May you rest in heaven safely tucked under the wings of angels.
Your friend, Lisa
