My reflection goes out to the friends and family of my brother in blue, especially his wife Tiffany.

My heart goes out to you and your family, when I read the news story, my eyes filled up with tears even though I do not know you or George, because I'm a police officer.
Please be strong for your children, and know police officers all over the country have you and your family in our prayers.

To my brother George, you are in the Lords room especially prepared by God for all of our brothers and sisters in the badge. Although an "old man" comparatively, having been retired over 20 years, my heart and that of all our retireees is still with all still working to keep our families and the nation safe. You'll always have a special place in the hearts of all of us in the badge, today, tomorrow and forever.

Each night as I leave for work and my 3 year old says, "Daddy, be safe" I will think of Officer Cortez and the sacrifice he made for all of us.

From the moment I heard about Officer Cortez and what happened I began to pray for his family.

Rest in peace.

Words cannot express the sadness I feel right now for the family of this officer. I can not even imagine what you are going through. You have a beautiful family, and 2 wonderful little boys that will always know their dad was a true hero in every sense of the word. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this extremely difficult and unimaginable time.

The City of Phoenix had a TERRIBLE day on 7/27/07..with the afternoon of two helicopters crashing chasing a stolen vehicle suspect..to the ULTIMATE sacrifice you, Officer Cortez, gave for our city. We are a huge family that will be there for your wife, kid, and the rest of your family.
You rest in peace and we will continue the fight to keep the streets of Phoenix.
I never knew you..but all that I have read you sound like a remarkable person.
We have another angel up there watching over us. Say hi to Marc, Dave, Wayne, Don, and all the others who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
Godspeed!!

George-Brother,

it was just yesterday that we were in our black and whites getting yelled at about those damn strings that a person could only see with a microscope. then shortly after that we moved up...and now we get wear the uniform. then finally we got the badge! that day was one of the best days for all of us. you deserved it so damn much. i can remember all our breaks in the academy and all the times that you put smiles on everyones faces. a time when everyone needed to smile cause the stress was getting to be so much. you never let it get to you. i envy you. we were great friends and i wish there was a way to keep that going. i am gonna miss going to vegas with you, going on party buses, going out on the weekends. you had just got to maryvale 2 weeks prior. i had yet to make it to a call with you, due to you working 83 2nd shift and me working 81 3rd shift. i was itching so bad to get to see you out there and handle our business together. i had told myself on thursday that i really was hoping to get to see you this weekend. unfortunately i had friday off. i was asleep when i got the call and i couldnt stop telling myself that is was a dream. i dont want to believe it george. i still tell myself its not real. reality really set in when i arrived at the hospital and saw it full of everyone. there are SO many people that you have touched and you will never be forgotten. george i will keep a candle burning there for you letting you know that you are with me and i take you on every call with me. i love you brother. no good bye for me...better yet i'll see you soon, you take care and you watch over us!

George,

I guess this is more for your family, but here we go. I remember working with you at 900 on the 92F squad and all the times we would just talk crap about everything! You were a great person to be around and funny as hell!

The night you lost your life I was assisting Phoenix in trying to apprehend the suspect at 83/camelback. When I heard it was you that was shot and didn't make it I almost lost it. To George's wife Tiffany his boys and the rest of his family I am truly sorry for your loss and the loss to us all. George was a great guy and a good friend.

RIP brother.
