Dave,
You will always be remembered as someone who brought joy and laughter into the lives of those you met. They say that to die in the service of others is a great honor. Today, no one deserves greater honor than you. Thank you for your sacrifice. May you rest in eternal peace.

Dave, when I saw the news story down here, I prayed it was not you. When I heard your name on the radio, I was in shock. When I read the story on the internet and saw your picture, I broke down. It’s still hard to grasp. I can’t even begin to imagine what your family is going through right now. I know they are proud of you and what you stood for, as am I. My thoughts and prayers go out to them. You had a plan and knew who you wanted to be for as long as I can remember. During our conversations at the Baron, you helped me realize my dreams. You will be missed by all your friends, but the memories we all shared with you will go on forever.

Aloha Trooper David Brinkerhoff,
Thank you for your service and dedication to your community and your country. You and all officers that continue to lay your lives on the line and pay the ultimate sacrifice to keep our communities and country safe, will NEVER be forgotten.

I personally pledge, (after one of Hawaii's own, Honolulu Police Officer Steve Favela, lost his life last year in the line of duty protecting our Commander in Chief, President George W. Bush), to become a continuum; a keeper of the ODMP light. That sacred light is in the form of an ODMP tribute. People from all walks of life, regardless of age, race, religion, profession, education, and geographical location can share here.

This "LIGHT" comes from within the heart and soul of every person who cares to share a word or two on behalf of each and every fallen officer. Every fallen officer is a hero. The ODMP; Officer Down Memorial Page gives us a place to come together and share our feelings as one family. May we find solace as we give solace to the families who have lost a loved one.

Trooper David Brinkerhoff, God Bless you. You are a hero. As we say in Hawaii, “You are`Ohana.” “You are Family.” No one will ever be able to replace you for you were unique and very special. No one; not in this lifetime. May God allow you to rest in His Divine peace. I wish you, your loved ones, and your fellow officers, peace and love beyond all understanding. I honor you today. You will NEVER be forgotten.

--"Your life is more important than you can imagine."-- Maya Angelou

** May this Hawaiian prayer give all those who read it comfort. **

THE PEACE OF " I "
KA MALUHIA O KA "I"

Peace be with you, All My Peace,
O ka Maluhia no me oe, Ku'u Maluhia a pau loa,

The Peace that is " I ", the Peace that is "I am".
Ka Maluhia o ka "I", owau no ka Maluhia,

The Peace for always, now and forever and evermore.
Ka Maluhia no na wa a pau, no ke'ia wa a mau a mau loa aku.

My Peace " I " give to you, My Peace " I " leave with you,
Ha'awi aku wau I ku'u Maluhia ia oe, waiho aku wau I ku'u Maluhia me oe,

Not the world's Peace, but, only My Peace,
The Peace of " I ".

To the family and friends of Trooper David Brinkerhoff,
Though we have never met, I grieve for your loss. To lose a husband and father,or a brother or son is something one can never truly get over. Only the hope that we will be someday reunited with the one we love, makes each day bearable. We learn to cope, taking one day at a time, for the sake of all those we love, but the hurt never really goes away. My prayer particularly is for his wife and young daughter. The burden of raising this young child now rests
solely on the shoulders of his mother. To this end I want you to know that you will be in my prayers and thoughts, that our Heavenly Father will give you the strength you need to provide for your daughter both a stable loving home, and happy memories of the father she will never know. This is an awesome task, and it is only through reliance upon a gracious God that you will be able to accomplish it.
I also want to thank you for supporting your husband in his job as State Trooper. The work our law enforcement officers do is tough and seldom do they get the thanks they deserve. Because of men like your husband we can enjoy freedom and peace in this great land. So even though you will probably never know who I am be assured that I for one want to say thank you to both you and your fallen husband. May you some day be reunited in your heavenly home.

Now that this detail is over, I sit trying to celebrate my son's 5th birthday along with my wife and 3 year old daughter, trying to explain why daddy hasn't been home for the past three days, knowing that David's daughter will never know her father except through pictures and the stories from the people who knew him. This was all due to a sub-human who decided he would shoot one of our extended family, and David and the MRT came without hesitation to put an end to the danger, only to give his life for people he never knew. God bless him, his family, and the entire Law Enforcement community - your posts have made this difficult time more bearable.
