Reflections for Corporal Marcus Stiles

I was reminiscing the other day about old co-workers at Canadian tire and Marcus was one of the first people to come up, always associated with a funny story and big smile. He would always ask the question to anyone that would come in for auto parts..."will it spin the tires". I even remember borrowing his truck one day and as he handed me the keys he siad "I don't even let my mother drive my truck" He had a good heart then and even though I lost contact all those years ago it looks like he never changed. My respects to his family, friends, co-workers and the community he worked hard at serving.

Dear Marcus's Family:

I only wish on March 25 my hands that laid on your son could have done more for him. I wish there was more to say and more we all could of done. Thank you for giving us the chance to know your son. And thank you for giving me the the peace of mind when you your family thanked me for what I did. Although I never thought I did enough. Only wish I could heal your pain, and know that you are in my thoughts everyday.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

HEY BROTHER, I REMEMBER THAT DAY WHEN I GOT A CALL FROM A FRIEND AND HE ASKED ME WHAT WAS GOING ON IN MONCKS CORNER. HE SAID THE COPS WERE EVERYWHERE. I CALLED A FEW PEOPLE AND NO ONE KNEW WHAT WAS GOING ON. A FEW HOURS LATER RYAN CALLED ME AND TOLD ME TO GET TO TRIDENT HOSPITAL BUT HE WOULD NOT TELL ME WHY. HE MET ME IN THE PARKING LOT AND TOLD ME THAT YOU WERE IN THERE. YOU WILL TRUELY BE MISSED. YOU MADE A HUGE IMPACT ON THE COMMUNITY. I WILL BE SEEING YOU AGAIN ONE DAY.

Marcus,
I am sorry it took me so long to put anything down. The only thing that is in my head is when I seen you last. I remember the first day you had the interview with the Chief. I asked who is that with the long hair? After spending time with on shift, I could see you becoming a good cop. I enjoyed joking with you and you also knew how to take care of business. I am so sorry this happen to you. When I keep playing it over in my head, why this person would due such a thing? You are a good man Marcus I know that god has a special place for you next to him. You will be missed and never forgotten. See you again some day brother. WCF1*

It's almost like it isn't real. I shouldn't be writing this right now, but the lord decided differently. So many words come to mind when I think of you: thoughtful, selfless, hero, and legend. Your career as a police officer was cut short, but I know you were headed to the top. I'll remember you for more than that. The guy who told me to "tighten up", didn't hestitate to jam the finger, and loved to rip gears with the best of them. I thank you for the memories that will never be forgotten. We will meet again one day, but rest assured until then I'll keep spinnin my wheels...

To the Stiles family and Brandy,
You loss is that of the greatest one that anyone could possibly suffer. I want to let you know I will never forget him either. I nevr had the opportunity to meet him, but I have friends that were very close to him and Brandy and everything I learned from them made me feel cheated that I never knew him. I will always think of you Marcus when I am in Moncks Corner and I will never forget those hours of vigil at your bedside all of the other officers and friends waiting and praying. I was there because Iwork at the hospital and I too was hopong that some how we could pull of another miracle in the world of medicine, but that was not to be. I am forever sorry that even though we worked so hard and thought we had you back we did not. But Oh how we wished........ I hope I never have to see another tradgedy like this again in my career. You just never think that you will see the horrible outcome of a person that was crazy and hateful to a police officer. God Bless you Marcus my you rest in peace and to your family you are thought of and loved.

I remember Corporal Stiles from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. We graduated together on December 9th 2005 after nine weeks of basic law training. I will always remember Marcus as a well reserved individual who always worked hard and never complained. I can honestly say from the bottom of my heart that the world is less of a place without Marcus Stiles. May peace now be with you my brother. You will always be remembered.

Marcus Stiles all I can say is "JOB WELL DONE". You was the type of person I would see riding with my daddy . And you would have a big simle on your face. That lit up the hole place, and one that said I am proud to be protecting my city.Words can not express how greatful I am to know you. All my daddy would talk about was his buddy Marcus Stiles, and how such a good man he was. And you showed every man, women, child, that you really the sweetist person you coud every meet.
