Reflections for Investigator David Michael Petzold

My prayers go out to Officer Petzold and his family. Thanks to him for his service to his community. My brother in law is a retired police officer for the City of Allentown and I have seen the dedication and hard work it takes to be one of the best. After reading all these reflections I have no doubt that Dave was one of Upper Saucon's best. God bless you Jessica and your children.

We did not know Officer Petzold personally, but our hearts hurt for him and his family. He was taken from this world far too early. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, children and family that they will have the strength to see their way through this very difficult time. Thank you David Petzold for your dedication to helping others and making this world a better place. May you rest in peace and know that you have made a difference in this world.

Hello,
I would like to send the deepest condolences from my wife and I, to your department and to the family of this fallen officer.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you all, on this sad and darkened day.
I'm including a poem I've written, in tribute to police officers all across this great nation of ours, and it's my hope that it is helpful to you and the family, in some small way.
May God bless and keep you all forever.
Here now is the poem I spoke of.

Brotherhood of Justice:
_________________________

We get ready for work everyday,
We go out and put our lives on the line,
Not because of the pay, but because we care.
When you need our help you can call,
We're always going to be there.
We protect and serve.
We do what we do because it's our job.
Who are we?
We are the brotherhood of Justice,
We are your police department.

We ask for nothing in return,
Our job is very dangerous, and sometimes we lose our life.
We're willing to die to protect you everyday.
We do this not for the pay, but because we all care about you.
We are your family, friends, even neighbors.

Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there.
I did not die.
This is what we always say.
We are with you, and always will be.
We’re by your side each and every day.

We go to work every day or night.
We wear our uniforms and we say.
Nothing’s going to hurt you,
Not on my watch.
Who are we?
We are the brotherhood of Justice,
We are your police department.

WE TAKE IT FOR GRANTED WHEN WE GET A CALL SUCH AS A DEAD DEER IN THE ROAD. WE FEEL SAFE DOING SOMETHING THAT IS BELIEVED TO BE ROUTINE. BUT, NOTHING WE DO IS EVER ROUTINE. THIS OFFICER WILL BE MISSED BY HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS. HIS DEATH IS AS TRAGIC AS AN OFFICER KILLED BY GUN FIRE. WE HAVE ALL LOST A VALUED MEMBER OF THE LAW ENFORCEMENT FAMILY.

"THE CALL"
by donna s.

"THE CALL" came, in and the Officer was sent
Just another day at work, so lights and sirens he went
The Officer arrived at the scene in a hurry
He exited his squad car without having a worry

It happened so fast when he arrived on "THE CALL"
The Officer didn't know that today he'd be giving his all
He was just doing his job, it was just a routine day
Until our Hero lost his life and was taken away

His Brothers in Blue arrived at the station to hear details unravel
News of the tragedy spread fast, through the news it did travel
The shock of this accident is cruel, a pain like no other
This man was a Husband, A Father, A Son, and Their Brother

The telephone rang, and my Officer answered "THE CALL"
As our family sat at the table, he rested his head on the wall
The look on his face was unfamiliar, filled with sadness and dread
Tears poured from my eyes becasue I knew an Officer was dead

We all feel the anger and fear, and our hearts are so sad
As wives of Cops, it is hard not to get mad
We mourn for the families of those who did fall
Just one single moment can change the lives of us all

Because we are bound as families of our men in blue
The death of a Cop hurts even when yours is safe next to you
For no matter where or when an Officer gives his all
It is the love of our men that unites us, and the fear of "THE CALL"

God Bless David , and May he rest in eternal peace. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during the coming days and weeks. May you have the strength to endure through this heartache

Inv. Petzold's Final Inspection"

Inv. Pertzold stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
Inv. Petzold hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

Step forward now, Investigator.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?

Inv. Petzold squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges
Can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep.
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills just got too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know that I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I've never expected or had too much,
But if you don't...I'll understand.

There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod
As Inv. Petzold waited quiety,
For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, Investigator David Petzold.
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell."
