Our Greatest Fear

Yet once again the Thin Blue Line is diminished,
an officer’s final tour of duty is finished.
"Officer down", it’s our greatest fear,
and once again, I hold back a tear.
They patrol in the state, city, county and town,
in uniforms colored white, green, blue and brown.
The shape of their badges may vary,
but it’s a symbol that they all, proudly carry.
They leave for work with a kiss goodbye,
but some don’t come home, no matter how hard they try.
To uphold the law is the job that they pick,
with such high aspirations, why must some die so quick?
They leave behind loved ones, family and friends,
after their lives have met tragic ends.
Some die in crashes, others hearts not too stout,
to many have been lost when gunshots ring out.
Our Heavenly Father has called them home,
no more these dark streets do they roam.
Through trial and error they have given their best,
please Lord, now grant them eternal rest.
Yet once again the Thin Blue Line is diminished,
an officer’s final tour of duty is finished.
"Officer down", it’s our greatest fear,
and once again I hold back a tear.

Deputy Nunez...may you know rest in peace and keep watching over us, we will take it from here...

To the family and friends of Deputy Margena Silvia Nunez and to her fellow officers of the Lee County Sheriff's Office:

I was so saddened to learn of the tragic death of this young dedicated officer. On behalf of our entire family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you sustained when Deputy Nunez was tragically killed in the line of duty.

May you be comforted and supported by the warm embrace of your law enforcement family, and by other police survivors who share your painful journey.

My heart goes out to this young family. I am sure that Margena touched the lives of many people and that she was an amazing wife, mother, family member, friend and peer. That is a wonderful legacy to leave to all those who cared for her.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the service Sheriff Nunez gave to her community and the citizens of Florida, and for the supreme sacrifice she and her family made on October 22, 2006.

Another officer falls in the line. It's hard to believe that any officer can be killed while doing such a "routine" duty, but we mourn another loss today. My thoughts are with you and your family.

Another Officer has fallen in the line of duty. What a travesty. Doing what they want to do in their lives and taken from us so so soon. To the family, loved ones, friends, and all who wear the badge of law enforcment we send our prayers to all of you.
"DO NOT WEEP"
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there, I do not sleep
I am a thousand winds that blow
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there. I did not die.
I know that the words, the poems, letters that are ready here by so many is hard and probably only give a little reassurance that they are all heroes and will be remembered.
What would we do without law enforcment,it is scary to even think of that situation. So to all who read these reflections, just don't read them and forget them just as fast. The Officers and any law enforcement who are at the memorial, and their families need to be remembered always.
God Bless You All

My thoughts are with your loved ones for their loss. I want them to know that they are not alone as many of us walk in their shoes. There are no magic words I can offer to help them with their grief except to keep your memory alive forever and to take one day at a time. You are a true hero and heroes never die. Keep watch over your loved ones as they continue their jounrey through life. You will never be forgotten.
