Dearest Son Today is your special day. You were my pride and joy during your lifetime with firm convictions, a sense of duty, love of your family and country. I am proud of the way you lived your life, always giving to others and never expecting anything in return. You did your job with a sense of purpose, serving the community and gave your life protecting others. My thoughts are with you daily as is my love. --"If you find it in your heart to care for somebody else, you will have succeeded." -- Maya Angelou

--"God's finger touched him, and he slept."--Alfred, Lord Tennyson

Aloha Police Officer Thomas A. Cook,
Thank you for your service and dedication to your community and your country. You and all officers that continue to lay your lives on the line and pay the ultimate sacrifice to keep our communities and country safe, will NEVER be forgotten.

I personally pledge, (after one of Hawaii's own, Honolulu Police Officer Steve Favela, lost his life in the line of duty protecting our Commander in Chief, President George W. Bush), to become a continuum of the ODMP light. That light is in the form of an ODMP tribute. People from all walks of life, regardless of age, race, religion, profession, education, and geographical location can share here. That "LIGHT" comes from within the heart and soul of every person who cares to share a word or two on behalf of each and every fallen officer. Every fallen officer is an hero. The ODMP; Officer Down Memorial Page gives us a place to come together and share our feelings as one family. May we find comfort as we give comfort to the families who have lost a loved one.

As we say in Hawaii, “We are`Ohana.” We are family. God Bless this fallen hero. May we embrace him as one of our own family member; our `Ohana. No one will ever be able to replace you for you were unique and very special. No one; not in this lifetime. May God allow you to rest in His Divine peace.

Police Officer Thomas A. Cook, I wish you, your loved ones, your fellow officers, and friends, peace and love beyond all understanding.

--- May this Hawaiian prayer give all those who read it comfort. ---

THE PEACE OF " I "

I think of you and pray for the family every day. As the holidays draw closer I find myself remembering all of the great Christmas Eve parties in Riverdale. I have so many fond memories of the family getting together and “catching up” on the years changes. Those times are sorely missed.
You were such a wonderful man and my heart aches over your loss. The family has never endured such a sudden and horrific loss. I know that God will see us all through.

I am truley honored to have had you in my life.

It's so close to Christmas and I can't help but think about you and how much your family must be missing you. It's never easy to lose someone, but Christmas seems to be the hardest time. I pray that you are okay and that the angels take special care in watching over all of your loved ones (especially your wife and children). You are and will always be missed. XX

Brother Cook,
Those who loved you in life will continue to do so for eternity. You have been taken from this world far too early to serve the lord by his side. May you rest in peace Brother. Gone but never forgotten. We will all miss you.

What makes someone a hero? Most of the time a hero is not defined by a specific action or event.
A hero is an ordinary individual who finds strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.
People know a hero when they see one, courageous, self sacrificing, setting examples for all of us.
People love their heroes.
Heroes live on through stories of their friends and families remembering the one who taught them to hold on a little longer.
I believe everyone has a hero in them.
That part of us that gives us strength, makes us brave, keeps us honest, and finally allows us to die in peace.
Tommy Cook gave us that with the way he lived his life.
When I think of my cousin Tommy I think of a man with conviction, valour and courageousness.
Tommy had firmness of spirit, a swell of soul, and a love for his family, which he used to meet danger without fear, traits seldom seen today.
Today as we look deep within ourselves, we try to understand our perfect balance.
There is no fear of the cycle of birth, life and death.
When you stand in the present moment, we are timeless observers of life, you are a solitary mortal standing in the light cast from our heroes above.
We must choose to grab life and live it to the fullest for those heroes who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
Our heroes are those who act above and beyond the call of duty and in so doing, give definition to patriotism and elevate us all.
America is the land of the free, because we are the home of the brave.
Tommy Cook is a true hero in ever sense of the word.

I met Officer Cook for the first time about two weeks before he was murdered. We have two Metra lots in our town and I had just finished a call at the west lot when I saw a Metra squad sitting in the northwest corner. I went to say hello and we had a 15 minute conversation, connecting on several different levels. He gave me his business card. I still have it in my wallet to this day. We had a couple more phone conversations after that and I was looking forward to having a good relationship with this officer.

To Mrs. Cook, I am glad to have met you at your husband's wake. I wanted to say good bye after the funeral, but you were so busy and overwhelmed with grief that I didn't feel it was the right time or place.

May The Lord Jesus be with you and your beautiful children as you come to terms with this sudden and devastating loss. You and your entire family remain in my prayers. I will never forget your husband, the impression he made on me, and the comraderie of common back grounds. He smiles from heaven down at you.
