When I heard the news of this fine officers death I was very grieved as I thought of his family and the officers we lost at Cherokee S.O. while I served as Chaplain. My own son served as an Narcotic's officer and this strikes close to my heart.
My deepest heartfelt sympathy goes out to Officer Stepnoski's family, friends and fellow officers.
From all of us at Cherokee S.O. our prayers are with you and for you as you go through this time.

Dennis:

I will miss you so very much. You were such a good friend, and a mentor to me, even though I worked for another agency. You will be dearly missed. I never thought it would be you, my friend, who went down. You are such a tough guy, a big strong brute. It just took one slimeball from Louisiana to take your life. I'm just glad that you killed that sonofabitch before you went down.

God needs cops like you in heaven. Watch ALL our sixes while you're there, and we'll meet again on the other side.

Much love,
Ruth

I send my condolences to the family, friends, and Dekalb County Police Department regarding the demise of Officer Dennis Carmen Stepnowski. I hope everyone that knew this officer will continue to remember his bravery, courage, and the legacy in which he left.

Officer Stepnowski your shift is over now, we will take it from here. Rest in peace, brother...

I did not know this officer personally, however it is very close to the area I work. How many times have we been in the same situation? , chasing suspects on foot. Police Officers run into the situations and dangers that average people run away from without a thought of our own safety or the people that are counting on us to return home to them safely. Whether its Atlanta Police or Dekalb , my fellow officers are my brothers and sisters. There is a great pain and loss in the death of another officer. My heart has not yet healed from the death of Officer Mark Cross, and now there is a new wound..Officer Stepnowski, rest in peace brother, you will be sadly missed. My prayers are for your family.

IN YOUR MEMORY

Don't cry because you think I'm gone,
for I am with you still.
Don't seek reasons to explain
what is simply just God's will.

It's very hard to leave all of you
and everything I've known,
but my work on earth is done now.
Our Lord has called me home.

I know you will find comfort
Just let faith guide your way.
Cause, from the moment I was born,
I have been preparing for this day.

Remember me for the laughter,
that's the greatest gift we give.
Keep me in your heart and mind
because that's where I now live.

If ever you feel you need me,
you can close your eyes and see,
I'm still right here with you,
I'm alive in your memory.

Lord,
He was yours to give,
and yours to call home,
please stand by his brothers,
so they don't feel alone,
dry the tears of his family,
so they clearly see:
that he gave his all,
so all could have peace.
Blessed are they,
the children of God,
with heavy hearts,
and honor - they trod,
to pay their respects,
to give their salute,
and to ask for your mercy,
on heroes in Blue.
Amen.

Dennis, rest easy brother, we have the watch.

Step, I was working and heading your way before I even knew it was you. When I heard the call for an escort for EMS I could only think the worst. When I arrived at the hospital and finally found it was you I was devastated. I had spoken to you only hours before as we did almost daily.

I have served with no one that I would be more proud to call friend.

I will miss you, you are a true hero in every sense of the word and a cop's cop. I will refuse to use past tense when speaking of you as I know you will always be with us and help to guide those of us here continuing the fight. Until we meet again....

Reality

Imagine how our world would be
If every police officer quit
Turned in their gun, turned in their badge,
Just finally had enough of it.

No respect, no loyalty,
No appreciation of all they do,
They’d give their lives for all of us,
These wonderful officers of “Blue”.

Kicked at, spit on,
Punched, stabbed and shot,
Everyday assaults on officers,
Done…without thinking a second thought!

Our laws are in favor of criminals,
There’s always some loophole in their case,
Out again to commit more crimes and murders
…creates pain, that we, the family and friends
…in time will never erase.

Why should they do it?
Why take the risk?
Why put their life on the line?
Subject their loved ones to endless suffering,
When their precious life is lost while fighting crime.

More murders, more kidnappings, more robberies and rapes,
Just to mention a few,
Please ask yourself how life would be,
If there were NO officers in Blue!

Would you do it? Could you do it?
And for how many…would YOU give it all?
Rewards are a 21 gun salute, a Medal of Honor,
And your name gets added to the Wall.

Think about it. Why are they here?
And why do some hate them so?
Because they enforce the laws that put convicts and murderers
In jail serving time, or on “Death Row”.

All give some and some give all,
It’s a risk they chose to take:
To put their heart and soul in it,
To put their lives at stake.

So, please take a moment,
Please give it deep thought,
Think of what “you can do”…

To help show respect,
To help follow the laws,
So we’d quit losing our Heroes in Blue!
