Reflections for Constable Dale David Geddie

I worked with and have known Constable Geddie for over 20 years. He was more than a fellow Officer, he was a friend. He was a Christian man that always put others before him. He loved helping others and felt that this was his calling from God. Smith County, Texas, and the Nation has lost a true hero.

Constable Geddie, rest in peace, brother, while the rest of us finish your watch for you. Keep Heaven's gates safe until we can get there to relieve you.

To your family, the thoughts and prayers of the entire thin blue line and family go out to you.

My thoughts are with the family of Constable Geddie. I can't begin to imagine the difficult times ahead. Even though I didn't know Constable Geddie personally, everyone in law enforcement from the diaptchers, to the patrol officers are like a family. "There is no greater gift a man can give, than to lay down his life for his fellow man." Rest in peace Constable Geddie..

The staff and members send our deepest sympathy and codolences to the family, friends and brothers and sisters who wear the badge of law enforcement. We have lost another wonderful person who gave his all for the safety and protection of his fellow man. Even though we haven't met this fine person or know him we still honor and feel a great loss of another law enforcement officer gunned down by someone who apprently doesn't give a thought to human life.
"A Part Of America Died",
Somebody killed a policeman today,
And part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect,
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect that shot him will stand up in court,
With counsel demanding his rights.
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids,
And spend many long lonely nights.
The beat he walked was a battle field too
just as if he had gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
In your town or mine,
While we slept in comfort behind locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And stands at each new rookies' side.
He answered the call,of himself and gave his all,
And a part of America died.

I met Officer Geddie in 1991. I had one too many, got behind the wheel, and was incarcerated. During my time in Smith County Jail, I made Trustee, and was assigned to the Sheriff's Department. During my time there, I met Officer Geddie. He always treated me with respect and kindness, even though I was an inmate. He helped make a difference in my life because of his respect for other people, no matter the circumstance. I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing, and my thoughts and prayers go out to his fsmily. GOD be with you in these trying times. GOD bless every public servant, and keep you safe.

A Policeman’s Friend

A policeman’s friend I’m proud to be
But in my heart I know
He might not make it back again
Each time he’s called to go.

I believe that as his friend
I have a special part to play
To encourage him and entrust him
And support him all the way.

He always does his very best
But society has its flaws
And he’s in danger everyday
From those who break our laws.

And so I say a prayer and hope
That there will come a time
When we don’t have to live in fear
Of violence or of crime.

I know he is one of the bravest men
That I will ever see,
And I will try, each and every day
To match that bravery.

My thoughts and prayers to Dale's family, friends and brother officers. It has been two weeks since we lost a brother officer in Dearborn Heights. I saw on the CNN news that Dale had been shot and killed in almost exactly the same execution type circumstances and I just wanted to express my sympathy. I am still suffering from the loss of my friend, as I know all of you will in Texas too. It hurts bad, but I took comfort in knowing that people from around the nation, who never even met my brother officer, had nothing but kind things to say. Emotional suppport came in many forms following his untimely death, and I took comfort in the kindness of words from friends and strangers. Be patient with the grieving process, it takes time, how much time-I dont know-but you will pull through. God bless and again sorry for your loss. -and to the Officer that ended the threat--you are a hero, you probably never wanted to be this type of hero, but be at peace that you did the right thing.
