One asks, God why? The answer is not often there, but with that we know this, He knows, and there we have to leave it, though we dont understand, and it is painful, there is no doubt, Heaven sings again, "Welcome Home Michael, You Have Done Well"

When I look at that picture of Mike, memories flood into my mind. Memories of growing up together in Pascagoula. I remember Mike growing into a leader in our church youth group. He was repected and respectful. I wonder if I have ever known someone with the character, kindness, fearlessness, and heart of Mike. If I ever have a son, I pray he is half the man Terry Michael Byrd was.

Well done, Mike.

My agency had the honor of serving with the Pascagoula Police Department following Hurricane Katrina. I spent two weeks in your city, assisting with law enforcement. I can't recall ever meeting Patrolman Byrd, but I still feel a deep loss. Pascagoula should be proud of the caliber of people that are employed within their police department. My deepest sympathy to both the family of Patrolman Byrd, as well as his comrades. R.I.P. my brother.

Ashley, Steven, Mr. Mike, and Mrs. Terri,
I am so sorry for the loss of Micheal. If I could take your pain away, I would wholeheartedly. Micheal and I have been friends since the 7th grade and you have treated me like a son ever since and I'm going to miss him dearly. He was not just my friend he was my brother and I loved him as one. It was also an honor to be one of his pallbearers. You were there for Kristen and I when we lost Braedyn and I hope I can help ya'll through this because you were there for us. I am going to miss that crooked smile and everytime we saw each other or called he'd always say Hey June what's up! He would always bring a smile to my face when we were out working or playing. I could not have asked for a better friend. I love all of you. BJ

I often tell the story of when Michael and I went to lunch during high school one day. We were running late and I was trying my best to make it back to school on time. Michael told me I should teach tactical driving. My parents would not be proud, but I was. Michael dreamed of serving in law enforcement, as I did at the time, and this was such a compliment to me! Michael was known by many names - Teeny, Baby, Little Byrd - but the truth is he was none of those. He was one of the biggest men I know - with the biggest heart. He served the Lord and the people. He always had a smile to brighten your day. I'll miss your special grin. Only weeks ago he was sharing with me about his sweet boy, Steven. Your daddy loved you so much and was so proud of you. I miss you, Michael, but I know I'll see you again. To Ashley, Steven, Mr. Mike, Mrs. Terri and the rest of the family -I love you and will continue to pray for you as we grieve the loss of one of the greatest people I have ever known.

I started my career in law enfocement over 13 years ago and Micheal's father was my Shift Captain.I have watched Micheal grow into the fine young man and Officer he became and on more than one occasion Mikes father has treated me with the love of a father to a son.I will miss Baby Byrd but his life was meaninful to many and his is an example to follow. Some may go through their entire life wondering if they have made a difference in the world Micheal's family will not have that problem.God Blees the Byrd family and my thoughts are with you always.

"Teenie Byrd" was my nickname for him, and I don't really know where to start. I lived with him and his family for about a year when Teenie was just in middle school. His father Mike provided me with a place to live when I didn't have one. That's the kind of giving and caring family Teenie was raised in. I watched him grow through the years and turn into a fine young man. Teenie, you and the rest of your family are so dear to me and my loyalties will always remain with you. There hasn't been many moments during the day that I haven't been thinking about you since your passing, but the thing that comforts me the most is knowing that you are in heaven with the Lord. Teenie, you were a dear and close friend of mine and I write this with a heavy heart because I love you and I'm going to miss you. It was a privilege and a honor knowing you and working with you. You'll never be forgotten Lil' Bro.

Twenty Six! Such an age to be passing. Oh, I have seen soldiers, many soldiers who have made the great transition, but Terry was much too young. I was among a group of officers who delivered some patrol cars from Gulf Breeze to Pascagoula in the aftermath of Katrina. I met many tired, whipped officers at the I-10 rest stop that afternoon. I know that Terry shared that same feeling of Christmas, as those who were there rallied for which car they would get. All of the officers, male and female, were tired beyond tired. But they all shook our hands, and headed off ready to do the task they were destined to do. I can't say that Terry was there that day, but I can say that I am certain that he shared the same spirit, the same desire, and the same committment to do good as all the rest. God Bless you all in Pascagoula, and please God, bless Terry and his family. With deep respect,

Rest in Paradise Little Mike. You touched so many lives in ways you could have never imagined and you will be greatly missed. A bright star has left this earth, but we know you are sitting with the Savior now watching over all of us. May your family find comfort knowing they have a new guardian angel and that we will all see you again when the time is right. Until we meet again...
