Reflections for Officer Andrew Todd Stevens

I echo my son, Justin's, sentiments. It is so soon after we lost Matt to hear of another senseless death and it appears we have lost another gem.

My heartfelt sympathies to your family, co-workers, and friends.

Thank you for your service, Andy. I hope you and Matt become fast friends and watch over the rest of us.

To Andy's family, friends, brothers and sisters of the thin blue line, you are in our prayers and thoughts. God bless.

Funeral Blues by W.H. Auden

Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.
Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message He Is Dead.
Put crêpe bows round the white necks of the public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.
He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last forever: I was wrong.
The stars are not wanted now: put out every one;
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun;
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood;
For nothing now can ever come to any good.

I met Andy and wife Michelle at the Experienced Motorcycle Rider class at Sierra College on November 6, 2005. We can all hope that when our time comes to join Our Heavenly Father, that we have been able to touch people in a positive way. Andy and Michelle touched my life and I am better for it. Andy offered his suggestions and encouragement to help me perform a particular manuever that I was struggling with. Michelle is a very friendly, annimated lady. I offer my condolences and prayers to the entire family during this time of pain and healing. Michelle, I hope to meet you In The Wind again sometime soon. Andy, may God shine His light and love upon you. Until we meet again, Godspeed.

I will pray for the family!!! God will take care of him in heaven!!!

November 22, 2005

To the family of lost soldier... Just remember...

"And when I'm gone, just carry on, don't mourn
Rejoice every time you hear the sound of my voice
Just know that I'm looking down on you smiling
And I didn't feel a thing, So baby don't feel no pain
Just smile back"

Be strong for the cause he gave his life for. Never give up! He would want you to hold you head up high and remember him as the strong, loving person. The song I quoted that from is a good one... I left the name from who I quoted it from out but anyone needs it I can give it to you. Just send me an email.

To that end I'm sorry for your loss...

To the wife of Andy Stevens,

My heart and prayers go out to you and your family. Here is a verse that I hold close to my heart that I would like to share.

Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest.
Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me
for I am gentle and humble in heart
and you shall find rest for your souls
For my yoke is easy and My load is light
~ Matthew 11:28

May His peace and gentleness touch your heart

Rest easy Troop, your watch is ours now.

This story shall the good man teach his son; from this day to the ending of the world, but we in it shall be remembered.

We few, we happy few, we band of brothers; for he today that sheds his blood with me shall be my brother; be he never so vile, This day shall gentle his condition.

i did not personally know officer stevens, but as a wife of a fallen officer, i know the pain his wife is feeling. my husband was also shot and killed during a traffic stop on august 13,2005. we do not understand why our loved ones have to leave us this way, but we are left here to carry on their names in honor. i am very saddened to hear of another officer being torn from his family. he was a brave man, like all of our officers are. i will keep his wife and family in my prayers.

“When God made Peace Officers….”

When the lord was creating Peace Officers, he was into his sixth day of
overtime when an angel appeared and said, “You’re doing a lot of
fiddling
around on this one.”

And the Lord said, Have you read the spec on this order? A Peace
Officer has
to be able to run five miles through alleys in the dark, scale walls,
enter
homes the health inspector wouldn’t touch, and not wrinkle their
uniform.

They have to be able to sit in an undercover car all day on a stakeout,
cover a homicide scene that night, canvass the neighborhood for
witnesses,
and testify in court the next day.

They have to be in top physical condition at all times, running on
black
coffee and half- eaten meals. And they have to have six pairs of hands.

The angel shook her head slowly and said, “Six pairs of hands….No Way.”

“It’s not the hands that are causing me the problems,” said the Lord,
“It’s
the three pairs of eyes an officer has to have.”

That’s on the standard model? asked the angel.

The Lord nodded. One pair that sees through a bulge in a pocket before
he
asks, “May I see what’s in there sir?” (When they already know and
wishes
they had taken that accounting job.) Another pair here in the side of
their
head for their partners’ safety. And another pair of eyes here in front
that
can look reassuringly at a bleeding victim and say, “ You’ll be alright
ma’am, when they know it isn’t so.”

“Lord,” said the angel, touching his sleeve,” rest and work tomorrow.”

“I can’t,” said the Lord, “I already have a model that can talk a 250
pound
drunk into a patrol car without incident and feed a family of five on
civil
service paycheck.”

The angel circled the model of the Peace Officer very slowly, “Can it
think?” she asked.

“You bet,” said the Lord, “It can tell you elements of a hundred
crimes,
recite Miranda warnings in it’s sleep; detain, investigate, search, and
arrest a gang member on the street in less time than it takes five
judges to
debate the legality of the stop…and still it keeps it’s sense of humor.

This officer also has phenomenal personal control. They can deal with
crime
scenes painted in HELL, coax a confession from a child abuser, comfort
a
murder victim’s family’ and then read in the daily paper how Law
Enforcement
isn’t sensitive to the rights of criminal suspects.

Finally, the angel bent over and ran her finger across the cheek of the
Peace Officer. “There’s a leak,” she pronounced. “I told you that you
were
trying to put too much into this model.”

“That’s not a leak,” said the Lord, “It’s a tear.”

“What’s the tear for?” asked the angel.

“It’s for bottled-up emotions, for fallen comrades, for commitment to
that
funny piece of cloth called the American flag, and for justice.”

“You’re a genius,” said the angel.

The Lord looked sober. “I didn’t put it there,” he said.
