Jonathan Parker was a friend, fellow law enforcement officer and a neighbor. I knew him when he worked for Sumter County Sheriff's Office and I was a Paramedic for Sumter County EMS. I can still remember how excited and proud he was when he was accepted into the Highway Patrol. Jonathan and I also lived on the same street for several years, so we were friends on and off the job. Rest in Peace my friend.

To the family of Trooper Parker:

Please accept my deepest sympathy in your loss. My cousin, Jonathan Walsh, was a police officer in Joliet, IL killed while responding to a call (EOW 8/20/04). This is a very difficult time for you right now, but when you find that you are able to, I hope you find some comfort in the messages posted to Officer Parker's web page. My prayers and thoughts are with all of you.

May God bless you and your entire family. Although I did not know you personally, you are my brother. All the members of the SCHP are my friends and family. Few places on earth can a man depend on another to lay down their life for the place of his own. The bible teaches, "there is no greater friend than one who would give his life for another." Without knowing you personally, I do know that if the circumstance arose, you would have given your life for me because of your love and dedication, and because of the proud uniform we share together. God is a God of justice, and you gave your life in the pursuit for justice. "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord". I sincerely thank you for sacrifice and dedication, you will not be forgotten. I said a sincere prayer for you and your family this day. God who hears will also answer.

Trooper Parker pulled to the side of the road to wait for a dangerous situation to approach him. This says a ton about the man's character. Trooper Parker, thank you for your service. Rest in peace, sir.

Upon the markers of their graves
Our heroes etched in names we save
For all the life they gave with pride
To keep the peace within life's stride

To honor serve and do their best
To keep us safe through any quest
They gave up what was theirs to share
Their spirits shall be always near

No fear within the hearts and minds
To keep us safe within our times
The glory that is ours to see
Those special hearts of bravery

They have walked where no man dare
Their lives in danger with no care
For they have given all they could
For their courage we have stood

In awe of every one who gave
His life for others who they saved
So we will know their contribution
Their firm resolve and resolution

For those they left with hearts so broken
In every whispered word that's spoken
We bow our heads in confirmation
In every word life's revelation

Those who stand within their shoes
Will follow courage as they choose
And give to all the best they had
They carry on with spirits glad

We will know that they walked through
With colors bright and hearts so true
No Island stands alone they say
For heroes they are born this way

Protecting those with loyalty
A glimpse of so much royalty
Within the years of courage bound
These officers have earned their crown

Upon the earth we shall remember
The special goals and all their thunder
That proves a hero came our way
Who left their hearts on earth to stay.

Our Greatest Fear

Yet once again the Thin Blue Line is diminished,
an officer’s final tour of duty is finished.
"Officer down", it’s our greatest fear,
and once again, I hold back a tear.
They patrol in the state, city, county and town,
in uniforms colored white, green, blue and brown.
The shape of their badges may vary,
but it’s a symbol that they all, proudly carry.
They leave for work with a kiss goodbye,
but some don’t come home, no matter how hard they try.
To uphold the law is the job that they pick,
with such high aspirations, why must some die so quick?
They leave behind loved ones, family and friends,
after their lives have met tragic ends.
Some die in crashes, others hearts not too stout,
to many have been lost when gunshots ring out.
Our Heavenly Father has called them home,
no more these dark streets do they roam.
Through trial and error they have given their best,
please Lord, now grant them eternal rest.
Yet once again the Thin Blue Line is diminished,
an officer’s final tour of duty is finished.
"Officer down", it’s our greatest fear,
and once again I hold back a tear.

To the Wife and family of Trooper Parker;
I was flying home from Police Week when my husband called to tell me of this news. I can't tell you how truly sorry I am for your loss. It's a loss to his family, his fellow officers and South Carolina, as well. I am saddened that another name will be added to that wall and that your family will now have to experience Police Week, too.

I know that no words will lessen this pain, so please just know that you are in my prayers and the prayers of many who have walked this difficult road before you. This is truly a loss felt by all in South Carolina. His service and sacrifice will NEVER be forgotten!

Sincerely,
Valarie Bell Wright
