Reflections for Master Police Officer Peter J. Lavery

Pete,

Happy St. Patrick's Day ! I wish you were here ! Just because you are in heaven, doesn't mean you can't put on the "Green", Randy and I will raise a toast in your honor
today. Keep a warm arm around Rita for me.
I miss you both with my whole heart and soul. You are in my heart, soul and thoughts every day.

Pete,

I was talking to you on my way to work last night as usual. It was really foggy and drizzling. I could hardly see 20 ft ahead of me when I saw a Police Light Bar flashing trying to pull someone over. My first thought was please be safe ! The next thought was...of course you will be..you've got someone special watching over you..
Thanks for keeping us safe.

I only wish that I had the chance to know you better Pete. Grandpa was always so proud of you. He must have been so happy to see you when God called him home. I always wanted to be a police officer Pete. It makes me so angry that I just "gave up" on my dream and that you were robbed of yours. Its unfair. Its unfair that instead of just cousins, we could have been "brothers in blue". I will always admire you and never, ever will I forget.

Till we all meet again...

Tim

Leaving Indelible Imprints
"I know for certain that we never lose the people we love, even to death.
They continue to participate in every act, thought and decision we make.
Their love leaves an indelible imprint in our memories.
We find comfort in knowing that our lives have been enriched by having shared their love." by: Leo Buscaglia

Peter, you are thought of today and always. You are missed. -Keri

Three years have passed and you have not been forgotten. Continue to keep watch over those that love and miss you dearly. Wrap your wings around them and help them with their grief as their broken hearts still grieve. You are a true hero.

December is here and I am choking back the tears. Life has not been the same without you. People say in time it gets easier. It doesn't !! April and December are the worst months for me. That horrible night just keeps playing back over and over again. I know you are at peace and that makes me happy. I know you are watching over Rita and keeping her safe and that makes me happy too. Who knows, maybe you have already taught her how to ride a bike. Now that is a scarey thought for a mother to have. I want you to know..I finally bought a bike for Randy. He loves it! It is not a Gold Wing but you would approve. I still remember all of the times you took me to VT on your bike. I will always cherish those special times spent with you. I even remember the time we went to DMV to registar a car and how upset you got. Every time I think of it, I laugh. You were so-o-o funny. I remember all of your phone calls with your pep talks during the adoption ordeal. That really meant alot to me. You have a way with words brother! You always managed to calm me down and give me strength to continue on. I don't know what I would have done without you during this time. You have always been there for me and now you are not. It is still hard to swollow and accept even today.
I miss you baby brother more than you know.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Hi Peter,

Im sorry that I did not get to go to your fundraiser back in August. Nor will I get to go to memorial ride in September. Just know that my prayers are always with you, Grandpa & Grandma. Please take care of them both. Jen and I are expecting the arrival of our 3rd baby in April. I sure do hope that you, Grandpa & Grandma will be there on that special day. Please look out for Jen and my baby. You are Nate & Jameson's hero and I know that when this baby hears about you, you will be too to him or her. Thanks Peter from the bottom of my heart.

Till we all meet again.....

Tim

It sounds like thunder far away, but the skies are blue and bright...
And soon they crest the hill nearby, and ride into our sight.
They shake the ground with powerful sound, and they make some hearts beat fast...
They look so proud and noble, like Knights come from the past.
Side by side, they always ride, and seem to move as one...
From early in the morning light, to the setting of the sun.
And children point and wave to them, from cars that pass them by...
And young ones ask their parents, why the men have mirrors for eyes.
They ride the roads, and fight for good, and defend small ones like you...
They ask to ride, and do with pride, and sometimes they are few.
Like men of steel, on Silver Wings, they sparkle in the light...
then with a roar and rumble, they ride out of our sight.
Sometimes when one has fallen, never to ride again...
You can hear the others calling, like thunder on the wind.
Side by side, they slowly ride, and their thunder is a mournful sound...
And the mirrors hide their eyes from us, when teardrops fall to ground.
So if you see one riding, and you look into his face...
You see your reflection in his eyes, you know that you are safe.
For motormen are a special breed, they love to ride the wind...
And when you hear the thunder boom, the fallen ones ride again.
