Thank you Kevin for your willingness to become a MSP Trooper! I never was able to make it through the process to become one of Michigan's most elite law enforcement officials. My heart aches to hear that one of the MSP family has died in the line of duty. I pray that God is with your family for the hard years to come.

May God blees you brother and your family. God bless the Michigan State Police.

I was at work when I heard about Trooper Marshall. I broke down in tears. I cried for him, his family and co workers. I just wanted to let everyone know he is now guarding the grounds of heaven.

Rest in Peace Sir, your time is here is now over with.

Not quite a year ago we lost our daughter to gunfire. I said I hoped nobody ever would have to go thru what we were going thru. But two weeks to the day, Officer Scott Stewart was gunned down in Detroit. Our family went to two police funerals in two weeks, one for our daughter and one for an officer who came to our house to console us just two weeks prior. I sat home the other night watching the news. And saw the story about Kevin's death I thought oh no not another Michigan Police Officer. The Stewart's are nearing the end of their trial and we are still in the middle of jury selection.
I have never writen in this forum before but want the Marshall family to know we all feel your sorrow, As only surviving family members of fallen Heroes can. I hope you can find some degree of comfort and support from the people of MI COPS as we have. Feel free to call us at any time if you need someone to talk to!

For a Fallen Hero by Sharon Joseph

And they say “ It’s so sad,
A real tragedy…
But he took the job knowing
That this ending could be.”
And they say “ It’s too bad,
Poor wife, all alone…
But she married a cop…
Life’s a real danger zone.”
We must not take for granted
These women and men,
By believing they know
It’s just a matter of “when”.
Each husband, each mother,
Each father, each son,
Have ideals and high hopes
That don’t end with a gun.
And to them, life’s so precious…
To preserve it, their quest,
They charge ahead not planning
To become Heaven’s guest.
They are out there, protecting
Your children, and you…
Taking chances for freedom
Most others won’t do.
They’re finding the lost,
Protecting those in harm,
Comforting the victimized,
Extending an arm.
Guarding duck with her babies,
As they’re crossing the street…
Or a wife, half-beaten
And feeling defeat.
These are the heros
Who took the job knowing
There is no guarantee
To where life is going.
But the promise of a long-lived life
Is given to no one
Teachers, doctors, lawyers…
Their daughter or their son.
So when one’s life is taken,
And a hero has been lost,
A brave knight has fallen
At oh, such a cost !
Please remember to say thank you
To the family left behind,
For the hero that they shared with us,
So loyal, brave and kind.
He lived so that this crazy world
Would be a better place.
And now he shines forever
In the glory of God’s grace.

Bless you, Kevin Marshall July 7, 2003
